9 Days Post Hysterectomy

Initially the day that I had my procedure and I was recovering in my room, a couple of goals that was set for me was to make sure that I urinated, I was passing gas, and to walk so I didn't get a blood clot. The complication I experienced was urinating I just couldn't go. I was told after anesthesia certain or gains have to wake up like your bladder and bowels, my bladder was just taking longer. I had to be catheter ed twice, which a nurse said really isn't good because each time you use a catheter your traumatizing the bladder. At one point the doctor came by to see me the next morning and said that if I didn't go after a particular amount of time they would send me home with a catheter. I definitely didn't want that. I was giving some suggestions to help me along, because I guess a couple of doctors were discussing it. I tried everything they suggested and one of them finally worked. Praise the Lord.

Another thing which was neither a bad nor good experience but more of a personal decision was not to take any narcotic pain medications. If I was asked I just said that I didn't want that and just took Ibruprophen along with my regular medications. Since being out of the hospital I've only used Ibruprophen a couple of time. Again, this is what I have chosen to do.

Since my time out of the hospital I have been experiencing a lot of bloating. I'm trying to rest as much as possible, however I know that I have to move around so I've been doing that as well. I've been trying to drink as much water that I can and eat healthy.

Not all the time, but I've experienced sharp pain at the belly button sight as well as my left incision.

I called my doctor yesterday out of concern for the sharp pain and asked if I should get a belly band to wear with my back brace. When I heard back from the nurse, the doctor told me to use an ace bandage above and below my abdomen. I was a little surprised but I said I would give it a try. So far the ace bandage isn't working......

Thank you for reading along.

We'll that's it for now. Have a wonderful and blessed day.

Re: 9 Days Post OP

Sounds like you are doing all the right things during your recovery. I have never heard of using ace bandages either, that is interesting. I do have a belly band, but so far have only used it when I was traveling home in the car, and boy was it a blessing. I don't find I need it at home. I will use it when I finally get out of the house for the first time. I'm not having pains at my incision sites, so not sure if a belly band would help that or not. Hopefully another sister will be able to give you some advice on that.

And yes, isn't the bloating fun, ugh.

Hope you feel better soon!

Thank you for responding to my post. Yes, definitely trying to stick to the doctors orders.

Yes that good old bloating, lol, I guess that's par for this course. Just about everyone that I spike to has the bloating.

I'm glad to see that you don't have any pain at your incision sights that good. I did try the ace bandage and ,no, that's not working. I really think l would be better off with the belly band.

I hope your feeling better soon also.

Take care,
TeeReid
