Total laparoscopic hysterectomy

Hi ladies! I'm new here and was just looking at all the posts and thought I'd finally post something!
I had my total laparoscopic hysterectomy (took my uterus, cervix and tubes) on January 7... Let me just say I thought it would go a lot easier than it did!
The surgery itself went good (as far as I know)...got the good drugs so passed right out, according to my fiancé it took about 2 1/2 hrs. I woke up in recovery in excruciating pain, that I remember! I remember them giving me morphine, didn't work, so they gave me dilaudid, that worked much better! I was stuck in recovery for like 7 hours until they could get me in a room! It was ridiculous. Once I was in a room, I needed continuous doses of dilaudid thru the iv for pain, I was throwing up (prob from anesthesia), blood pressure was low, they had to cath me cuz i couldn't pee... Finally the next morning I was able to pee, they sent me home and the car ride I thought was going to kill me! The gas pain was so bad it was in my chest and I could barely breathe. Thankfully I have a great man that helped get me home and situated or I don't know what I would do!
Since I've been home I've been trying to rest, trying to walk every hour or so around the living room to move the gas around....def been needing help to shower and get things when I need them. Still taking Percocet every 4 hours and colace to help... Been passing the gas since yesterday but it's not all gone yet. Still no bm.
Thanks for letting me ramble on and on! Guess I needed to get it all out from the last couple days lol ! Look forward to checking in again!

Oh and also, I'm supposed to be returning to work on the 19th! I know it's like only 2wks from surgery... I'm starting to get very worried this is not a good idea!!!

Re: Total laparoscopic hysterectomy

Hi! Thanks for sharing your experience. I had my hyster on the 6th. I had the da Vinci. My Experience was very similar to yours. Thank fully I have a great partner as well. I don't know what I'd do without him. I barely took a bm this morning and it was painful! I never expected the pain as well as emotional ups and Downs that this would bring. I do believe going back that early isn't a good idea for you. Hopefully your Dr will give you more time. Hope you feel better soon! 😀 it's nice to read a similar story.

Re: Total laparoscopic hysterectomy

I am glad to see you safely on the Other Side! The first few days post op can be rough. Keep walking as you feel able, drinking lots of water, and resting. Leave the housework; now is the time to take care of you.

Here is the link to your post op recovery thread. This is your place to post updates, share your progress and give/get support from women who had surgery the same day as you.

I am for an uneventful recovery!
