Pre-Op Today...Seems too easy!

Wow...pre-op appt this morning. Still don't know the TIME (grrrr) because the dr will call me the day before, but it will probably be early morning.

It all seems too easy, though. No shaving, no bowel prep...took the blood, EKG, etc all today. Have to wear the pretty pink (princess color???) band that matches me to my blood type/screen until I show up on Friday though. The A-man will see me that morning and it will be the actual one in the OR with me.

Not knowing what blood tests were going to go on, I fasted from midnight last night...drank 40 oz of water this morning and the nurse commented about how dehydrated my veins were...so DRINK, DRINK, DRINK...LOTS of water between now and Thursday midnight and she said that it helps with everything. So take that word to heart, girls...lots of water pre-op as well as post-op!

I guess I am a little more nervous than I think...I feel so calm on the outside and only a little fluttery on the inside, but my BP was super high compared to my normal reading. I actually told the nurse to do it again after giving me a couple minutes to internalize and relax...it did drop a bit, but was still high.

Well...here's to the last couple days of waiting (which are ovulatory and hurt...goodbye to that stuff soon!)

Pre-Op Today...Seems too easy!

s!! You'll be a soon and life just gets better and better for us Princesses!

You'll make it through just fine, and then you'll have another important thing to do - to take excellent care of yourself! Really pamper yourself and let others pamper you, too. You want to have a good, solid, restful recovery. Never, never overdo!

You'll look gorgeous in your new crown!

Pre-Op Today...Seems too easy!

my pre-op is Thursday and surgery Monday. I'll keep you in my prayers. I am very nervous now, and everyone I've spoken to minimizes the entire thing. I'm so tired of people telling me--oh you'll be fine, you'll feel great. Don't they get it that it is major surgery???? Its so fustrating!!!!

Pre-Op Today...Seems too easy!

When you go for your hosp pre ops, unless they tell you to fast or otherwise prepare, eat and drink normally.

And dehydration is another good reason to follow your DR's orders for the day before surgery - if you're not told to eat lightly, then eat and drink as normally as possible. Same thing with bowel prep - it also dehydrates you, so if it's not part of your pre op orders - DON'T.

Best wishes!

Pre-Op Today...Seems too easy!

mlweeman- thanks for the advice. I wasn't told to do anything different but was considering eating lightly anyway. I tend toward nervous bowels anyway and figured I'd just feel better...maybe nutritional drinks so I am not "run down"? Don't want to do anything contra-indicative, and this is probably what I WOULD do normally for myself before a big event like this. Not sure if I should "make" myself eat real meals or not...they probably will taste like straw...What do you think???

Tra4- yes it is major surgery and that's why we have to be so careful post-op to follow the rules. It is really up to US!!!
I am trying to find the "light" attitudes encouraging rather than insulting. People are either uneducated, negative, or have had their hysts so long ago and enjoyed the results so long that they tend to downplay the surgery part (I've a few friends like that...but I DO know they mean well and will do anything to help out after.) It's all in how I interpret...because I can't change what comes out of other people's mouths.

Here's to our upcoming coronations

Pre-Op Today...Seems too easy!

Corni-
Great! I'm scheduled for a vaginal hyst with probable BSO - depending on how things look once he gets in there. There is little suspicion he'll have to do an incision. I have heavy fibroids growing leaps and bounds, although they have existed quietly for years. I am also in ovulatory pain and constant discomfort at best...and periods from H*** all the time and getting more frequent...down to a 17 day cycle - egads. Was passing clots that alarmed me and so I called the Dr...gonna get myself fixed right up.

The pantry is almost funny...my kids are laughing at me. I tell them they'll thank me when I can relax and recover next week

Looking forward to happy results like yours!
