Calf Pain 3 days post op

Hey Ladies - I am 3 days post op from TAH. Came home from the hospital yesterday. This afternoon I tried to venture to taking a shower just to feel a little better. DH helped me in and out and helped me dry off and to put lotion on, etc... Something I noticed when he was helping me dry off, put lotion on, etc... is that my calves are really tender to touch. They almost feel bruised - they aren't - they just feel like that. Should I be concerned? While in the hospital I had those lovely boots to keep the blood flowing in my legs, etc... - but they came off the day before I left. I've had many surgeries in my life - and this is a first for me. Any thoughts?

I recommend calling your Dr. right away! Their office should have someone on call that you can talk to. That could be a sign of a blood clot and it is nothing to mess around with. Please let us know what happens and good luck!

Yes, definitely call your doctor, or if they are not in the office this weekend, go to the ER. Do you have any shortness of breath?

I know calf pain could be a definite sign of a blood clot, and shortness of breath is also a sign. But, I'm not sure you have to have both at the same time with a blood clot.

It could just be, too, that your body is under a lot of stress and your muscle are cramping... I have had a LOT of muscle cramping over my recovery. But, being you are so newly post-op, any leg pain is a red flag.

It doesn't hurt to check it out. I had shortness of breath my first week post-op, and I was sent to the ER. Turned out it was a result of pain for me, but I dind't want to just assume nothing was wrong... so definitely get this checked out.

Let us know!!!

I agree it would not hurt to call your doctor, but I want to say that I too experienced calf pain... I was on Ibuprofen 800 mg. and on the stat sheet it said that calf pain was one of the possible side effects. My doctor told me to call him if it got a lot worse. As I eased off pain meds it went away.

I would also call the doctor without delay. There are some serious problems which have sore legs as symptoms.

Please let us know what the doctor says. Much better to call "for nothing" than to neglect to call and have it be "something".
