Hysterecotmy for Adenomyosis...does the belly shrink?

Hi everyone,
For those who have had surgery for Adenomyosis, after hysterectomy does the belly look/feel smaller and flatter?

I am a petite frame, 106 lbs and have a small pregnant looking tummy all the time. My gyn/onc thinks I may have adenomyosis because of my symptoms and having a larger than expected uterus noted during hysteroscopy.

I just wondered for those that had adeno and had the uterus removed, does the appearance of your tummy get drastically (or subtly) reduced??

I'm having such awful pain and pressure - it wouldn't enter into my surgical decision either way - just curious!

Thanks much! Robyn

Good question Robyn! I have suspected adeno too, but haven't had my hyster yet. I go in to schedule on Monday. I'd like to know other's reaction as well.

Re: Hysterecotmy for Adenomyosis...does the belly shrink?

I had a tvh (for adenomyosis and endo) and my belly didn't shrink at all.

Only exercise will take care of that for me!

Thanks Lilly,
That was helpful. Did you feel that a "weight" was removed after you recovered? I have that "bowling ball" in the uterus feeling often.

Hi Robyn,

I can 't really say about the tummy appearance because I had a tummy tuck at the same time but man did I feel soooo much better. Your insides feel so much less "congested & full". Looking past the pain of the operation, I felt so very much better. Good luck!

Rilessmiles, How did you have a Tummy tuck at the same time? I was scheduled to have a tummy tuck in Jan/Feb 2010. Now my GYN told me that I need a Hysterectomy due to Adenomyosis. I guess that my Hyster can be scheduled for Oct and then I still can go ahead with Tummy tuck in Jan.

Re: Hysterecotmy for Adenomyosis...does the belly shrink?

Yes... I would be curious to as to how you can have a tummy tuck at the same time! Seems like the pain of the hysterectomy would be as much as I could handle at one time.

Is the tummy tuck necessary for one who is very thin to start - but feels distended in the belly because of this condition (adenomyosis) which has been present for a long time?

I'm wondering if my belly will shrink and I'll have stretched out skin or something like that. I guess it's similar to preganancy that way!

Again though - I would think the pain from the one operation would be enough for me!!

I agree! A Tummy Tuck is also major surgery and I do not know how they can be done at the same time.
