rollercoaster ride of having a hysterectomy...

Does anyone else find themselves questioning their life since their hysterectomy? I have always just accepted things as they are and push forward. Since my hysterectomy I am quesitoning all the things I have always just pushed under the rug so to speak. Maybe it is just hormones, who knows.....

Re: rollercoaster ride of having a hysterectomy...

I find myself thinking a lot about what I do and why I do it. What i spend my energy on, and what is really important to me. It is like I have been given a second lease on life, and I want to make sure I use it well.

Lovetheocean, I agree with you. This surgery hasn't affected my thinking as much as what happened earlier this year. In January I almost died, wonderful Drs. saved my life and legs. So I have done a whole lot of rethinking about what is important. I too want to use it well.

I think this is because as women are always busy. Never really have time to stop and contemplate life and aims!
During this time we are forced to rest and have loads of thinking time, this can be good but also can have a negative affect on us because all our hormones are messed up during this time, try to think positive and heal well xxxxxxxxxxxxx

I think Love the Ocean has it right. This procedure has really made me look at what is important and where I am really spending my energy. I have realized I was spending my efforts on the wrong people, and in particular not myself.
As women, we spend a lot of energy on others and not ourselves. I have finally decided to put me first.

I think you are right. I talked to a friend recently who had her hysterectomy at 32 and she is now 39. Anyway, she told me that she did not feel better physically for 6 months after her hyst. She also told me that the emotional stuff is a hit and miss for about that long too. So bluebell I think you are right on in your assessment.

Re: rollercoaster ride of having a hysterectomy...

Wow! I was thinking the exact same things this morning! Everyone always asked how I do it, and I just say " I just do it. What are my options?" or " I don't really have time to think about it!" Well now all there is is time.....I had to do alot of soul searching for the past 4 yrs on having this done and how physically, mentally and hormonally this was going to affect me. I am so thankfull to have a DH that has stood by me and my 2nd opinion after opinion, specialists, etc. for the past 13 yrs. And a very patient dr.
Time is scary and liberating. Scary becuz for me alot has been consumed by pain, pain meds, dr's appts and just pushing on not really having time to smell the roses so to speak and liberating becuz now I also feel like a dark cloud has been lifted and I can start to see a glimmer of sunshine (maybe a few daisy's)! I am only 9 days post op but to see the glimmer back in my DH's eyes and my ability to hope for a better quality of life makes me want to ! (I will let Snoopy do it since I prob shouldn't)
I agree me first and my family are my first priorities! Bye Bye dark cloud! BTW I cry way more than I have in 13 yrs LOL! I definately feel alive now, where as before it was more robotic
Thanks to all for finally finding a new family that understands me!

Re: rollercoaster ride of having a hysterectomy...

I think a lot of us take a bigger look at certain things in our life. I wanted to become a more positive person & be thankful for the good things that I do have. I still have to work at it but I am doing good. You probably have more time right now to think so it makes sense.
