Anything other than abdominal hyst. a possibility here? (fibroid issue)

I just found out today that I have a fibroid, approx 6cm in diameter, protruding through my cervix, functionally making my cervix about six cm dilated...as my gyn said, you're trying to birth a fibroid.

She does not do surgeries, but she doesn't think anyone will be willing to do anything other than abdominal due to the size of the fibroid and of the peculiar way it is presenting.

Has anyone had anything similar to this? I'm still learning the acronyms around here, so I won't use them yet...is lap or vaginal a possibility?

I would suggest seeing a couple doctors who are skilled surgeons and ask their opinions. Only a surgeon is going to be able to let you know specifically what type of surgery could be done. Do remember that not all surgeons have the same skills so it will also depend on the skill of your surgeon.

I agree with Weiser and get a 2nd or even a 3rd opinion. I got two opinions myself and it is still one of the best things I ever did for my long term health. My 1st Dr. recommended an abdominal hyst (TAH) due to the size of my fibroids. My 2nd Dr. suggested (3) months of lupron shots to shrink my fibroids enough for a laparoscopic hyst (LSH). At the time of my hyst...my two fibroids measured 9.1 cm total.

I am no-where near a Dr. ..and in my opinion your fibroid size sounds like you might be a candidate for a less invasive hyst. Go to the *Hysterectomy Checkpoints* link at the top of the web site and click on it..and go to the *Pre-op* link and scroll down on that. It goes over important questions to ask the Dr. when contemplating a hyst and it lists the different types of hysts.

Getting a 2nd opinion might give you more options on what to do....or it will back-up what your current Dr. is saying.

Just do all the research you can...and keep asking your questions. Drs give us options and we make the final decision when it comes to our bodies.
