HELP! UTI two weeks before surgery

I'm not sure if it is okay to post this question here. I tried posting on the new member discussion board. I'm worried! My LAVH is scheduled for April 13th. I have managed to get another case of Urinary Tract infection. I hate to admit this, but I dont' want to tell my Dr.! I am afraid that he will want to postpone surgery. Mentally, I can't stand having my surgery postponed. Can anyone tell me if surgery will get posponed due to UTI? I am single and living alone. I have relatives flying in town to take care of me and it will be a tremendous inconvenience for them. And until I can train by 20+ pound cat how to cook, they will be my only support system.

Please respond.

Re: HELP! UTI two weeks before surgery

i think you need to tell your doctor. if you get on the proper medication right away it can be cleared up within a few days and there will be no need to postpone your surgery. good luck and feel better!

Re: HELP! UTI two weeks before surgery

tell your dr about your UTI. The sooner you can get on meds to clear it up the less likely your surgery will be postponed. Also, if a catheter is needed and you're prone to UTIs in the first place, he can take that info into consideration.

And if you figure out how to get your cat to cook, please let me know...

Hugs!

Re: HELP! UTI two weeks before surgery

I just read in another thread (one about a sup catheter) that another Sister had a UTI now and her surgery is Tuesday. She's on meds now. The thread was on this same page. Look it up & ask her questions.

I agree, call your doctor now and get some antibiotics to clear it up before surgery. I don't think it would be a good idea "Not" to tell your doctor.

Re: HELP! UTI two weeks before surgery

The same thing happened to me. I'm scheduled for a LAVH on Monday, March 29, and exactly 2 weeks before my surgery, I got a UTI. I was in a state of panic. I was so worried about my surgery being postponed too. I'm a nervous wreck and just couldn't deal with having to put it off longer. I called my doctor's office and they got me in that day, gave me antibotics that I took for a week. I went for my pre-op blood work this past Monday, and they also did a check for bacteria in my urine. The results came back yesterday showing everything was fine. (Of course, I've been drinking tons of water and cranberry juice now for the past week and a half because I don't want to get it back before my surgery).

Definitely let your doctor know. The sooner you start on antibotics, the better. They'll clear up the UTI and you should be fine for your surgery.
