Hi, day 13 for me and I was going to hop on the treadmill for a SLOW mile. My dr said I could walk. Anyone else doing this?

Re: treadmill

I was told no treadmill because it can force you to go faster than you intend. People here have gotten the green light because they can jump off when they have had enough. Call you doc and see if that is okay in your case.

Re: treadmill

You shoud be fine, my doc told me treadmill would be good just to take it very slow!! If not treadmill, take slow walks around neighborhood and dont over do it. Happy walking!!

Re: treadmill

ok, took me 35 minutes to do one mile. I didn't push it. I actually broke a sweat!! Felt good. When I leave my house to walk in the neighborhood, my dogs go nuts b/c they want to walk and I can't take them yet. I guess I could drive to a different neighborhood to walk.

Re: treadmill

I have been walking around our back patio - I'm just not ready to put on pants or shorts to walk thru the neighborhood yet. And our indoor cat is very skittish, so walking up & down the hallway just isn't going to work for me.

My DH suggested that I breathe in for 4 steps & breath out for 4 steps (or whatever count you are comfortable with) to get my body rhythym back in order (he reads a lot of alternative health books).

I also find it very meditative to do this.

Just be sure to change directions every few laps. I would definitely ask your Dr before using the treadmill.

Re: treadmill

I tried the treadmill...notice I said TRIED!!! I had been walking and thought that the treadmill would be no different than walking around the house, especially if I put it on 1MPH. After the second step (one with each foot) I determined it was too much for me. I could feel a pulling sensation on my incision. The dr wants me to wait until AT LEAST 6 weeks!! He said he would visit with me more about exercise on my return appt...Aug 4th!!

Re: treadmill

I find slow treadmilling really annoying and prefer walking.

Re: treadmill

I started walking 12 days after surgery.(outdoors) At first a qt of a mile and each day added a little bit more. Just don't over do it. I too have a treadmill, I think it would pull you too much. I'm a runner and wont even try the running for at least 12 weeks(with drs permission of course). I want to heal completely inside so as to not have complications later.
Just go easy and at a painless pace for you.
