Re: Hair loss?

Hi
I have found that I have been losing hair, not sure why, but keep finding my hair every where ! It also feels very dry and thin, which is unusual for me as I usually have thick hair x

4 weeks post hysterectomy: Hair loss?

I've lost a lot of hair and keep losing. I had to get my long hair cut into a short bob.

4 weeks post hysterectomy: Hair loss?

I started noticing hair loss after my surgery, which my doctor attributed to stress. It's also possible that your ovaries have temporarily "fallen asleep," which can mess up the hair growth cycle. Other common causes include deficiency in iron or B vitamins, or a slow thyroid, which is apparently quite common following a hysterectomy. I would therefore recommend seeing your doctor, because he can order tests to find out what's going on, and offer targeted solutions. Best wishes for your continued recovery!

I am losing quite a bit of hair too. Some sisters mentioned that this can be due to the hysterectomy but I'm still wondering if maybe it's just the change in seasons!?!... I always seems to lose a lot of hair around the Fall/Winter season. Like a dog, I'm making room for my winter coat. LOL!

Lets hope that is it... don't get me wrong I can stand to use handfuls of hair but don't want to lose all of it... LOL

Re: 4 weeks post hysterectomy: Hair loss?

I lost a ton of hair throughout and along my hairline. No one can notice, but it's so obvious to me. I asked my doctor and he said the surgery can cause your hair follicles to go to sleep and it can take 6-9 months for them to wake up! I'm 7 months post now and I still don't see regrowth, so getting a little worried and I can see my scalp up top.

Re: 4 weeks post hysterectomy: Hair loss?

I've got very short hair, so I really don't notice when it comes out during hair washing since it washes down the drain rather than accumulates. (Dry, it's moussed in place )

It's common enough to lose hair post op - the cycle of growth and loss can be disrupted from surgery or meds, iron deficiency if you lost a lot of blood during surgery, hormonal imbalance either due to sleeping ovaries or surgical menopause or thyroid issues post op. There's a good possibility that it's temporary and will settle back into it's normal "routine" as you recovery. Keep notes about it, though, in case it continues so that you can talk to your doctor.
