Diarrhea 3 weeks post-op--is it normal?

Hello to all, and thanks for this site. It's been so helpful, especially post-op.

I had a LSH on July 23rd. Basically my recovery has gone smoothly. My doctor said I could resume normal activities depending on how I feel between 2-4 weeks, but I've been careful about easing back into things. This includes doing most of my work from home.

My question: For the last three days, I've had cramping when I wake up--feels a bit like what my body used to experience just before a period. Then, about an hour later, I have very watery diarrhea and feel overall hot and weak. And then it's done.

Anyone else experienced this, or anything similar? I'm taking tylenol (about 2000 mg) and naprosyn (about 1000 mg) daily--the naprosyn I've been taking for years for rheumatoid arthritis. But I'm wondering if it's the combo of the two triggering this, or just over exertion, or...? I haven't taken any other pain meds since I left the hospital on 7/24.

Thanks for any thoughts or advice...

Liz

Re: Diarrhea 3 weeks post-op--is it normal?

It can be very normal. I had a terrible time getting my diarrhea under control. I do find when it would be that time of the month my digestive track went a little crazy for the first few months. It took my ovaries a few months to get back to normal. I think just the trauma to our bodies can cause that for some of us. I know it does for me. I hope you feel better soon. Best wishes.

I'm at 4 weeks, and the digestive issues remain the most problematic part for me. I think the surgery and the medications do a number on us.
