um, itchy anyone?

I have been having strange, random bouts of itchyness, all over my body. sometimes, my back, sometimes my armpits, sometimes my arms, sometimes all at once. last night it was my pinky fingers. how random is that!
has anyone else experienced this after hyst.? I had a tvh 3 weeks ago. I'm not taking any pain meds so I know it's not that....I tried switching soap too. ARGH!!

Re: um, itchy anyone?

Hello, fellow Washington-resident, it's happened to me before my hysterectomy a couple of times and could be totally unrelated to your surgery. My mom is a nurse practitioner and she told me that ibuprophen can cause itching. At that time, I was taking quite a bit of it for cramping. However, lots of allergies also cause that kind of itching.

Re: um, itchy anyone?

runner,
thanks you are probably right. I think it is unrelated. On another note, I see you and I had our Hyst's one day apart. How are you healing?

Are you taking any medications right now? Supplements? Have you mentioned the itchy to your doctor? Some women can even be allergic to the dissolvable stitches!

I had itching and hives from head to toe while still in the hospital as I ended up being allergic to their detergent!

I would encourage you to double check with your doctor!

Re: um, itchy anyone?

I got the prickly itch after the last round of night sweats. Seems I was giving myself a prickly heat rash. A quick shower, change of all the sheets and clothes, and I was good to go again.

Re: um, itchy anyone?

Did you have a spinal nerve block. I did along with regular anthesia and it was one of the side effects, lasted about a week. Luckily the nurses saw me scratching and told me about the side effect. Benedryl helps alot!

Re: um, itchy anyone?

I'm eight months post op and recently began to get itchy again. I was itchy post op from the anesthesia and meds, then dry skin. That resolved but now again. Enough to drive anyone nuts.

Re: um, itchy anyone?

Hi, JennyAnn, you asked how I was healing... it's been slower than I'd hoped but I guess I shouldn't complain because there haven't been any complications. I got sick to my stomach from the pain pills on the 2nd day at home so I was taking lots of ibuprophen. I guess it started causing extra bleeding because it was just spotting at first and then it stopped, but on day 10 I was bleeding much worse than before. At my 2 week appt., the doctor said to switch to tylenol. I don't think the tylenol does anything for me and I am quite sore. In the morning it's not so bad, but by evening, I have to move quite slowly and carefully. The last couple days, I'm feeling some new little pains but I think it's due to my increased activity. Yesterday was my first day without a nap, but I snuck one in again today. I can only walk down my road and back, about a quarter mile, without my lower abdomen really starting to hurt, but at least I'm not feeling dizzy anymore, so I am getting stronger and improving. I'm also starting to sleep better and haven't woken up the last couple of nights with the night sweats like I was before. How are you recovering, besides the itching, of course?

I had my hyster in July 2007 after a few weeks I was SOOOOOOOOOOOO ITCHY mostly on my sides and under my breasts!! I admit I was not showering daily I would rather sleep by the second week its started, I think I must have picked up thing up at the hospital, I have never had it before since or ever again. I did some research on line and read it could be a skin fungus causing it so and read vinegar could kill it... so I got some vinegar and poured it all over my body in the shower after a few applications the itchy was all gone! NEVER TO RETURN!! GOOD LUCK
