Going in Friday for TVH

I am scheduled and getting ready for the surgery on Friday, yes Friday the 13th at 1300 hours!!
I have a few questions. I am assuming the "swelly belly" is really for those who are having adnominal surgery and not the vaginal route? My surgery is in the afternoon and the doctors are saying 2 - 3 hours for the process. One doctor will take out the cervix and uterus and the other will stitch everything else back up in place so it doesn't fall out later. I asked the first doctors PA about the information on ovaries not working for a period of time after a hysterectomy and she said that was completely inaccurate and NEVER happens. I actually believe this list more than that PA. Any thoughts on this? HOw frequent is that? how would I know? would it be symptoms of menopause or something else.

Also I have to tell you this list has made me feel so much more comfortable about the surgery and far more knowledgeable about the process and able to ask good questions when I met with the different doctors. Thank you for being here.

I will be looking at lots of information for post surgery too.

Re: Going in Friday for TVH

Hi! I am going in Wed the 11th for a TVH. I asked my doctor at my pre-op appointment today about the ovaries not working after surgery thing and he said that he has had that happen. He said in those cases he prescribed hormones for about a month and everything started working again.

As for the swelly belly, we may still have some but I'm hoping not as bad as those who have abdominal incisions.

Good luck!!

Re: Going in Friday for TVH

Hi girls! I had a TVH on Oct 7th and my ovaries are in shock and I have a little swelly belly. I use supplements for the hot flashes and hormone issues and I walk quite a bit everyday then try and put my feet up and recline. Good luck with your surgeries - the weeks leading up to my day at the castle were horrible but I am glad I am on the other side

Re: Going in Friday for TVH

Hi there! I also had TVH with a&p repairs. I thought I wouldn't have a swelly belly, but I do. It has been six weeks and I still have it somewhat. I think it has to do with the internal stitches and moving around organs on the inside, not from only the abdominal incision. Good luck on Friday and remember to rest, rest, rest afterwards!!
