LAVH or TLH?

Ladies, I have a question: I am having a laprascopic hysterectomy, but she said she would pull my uterus out of my vagina. So is that a LAVH or TLH?

Likely, you will be having the LAVH--laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy. Work will be done laparoscopically with the complete uterus delivered vaginally. Your surgeon will then create a vaginal cuff either vaginally or laparoscopically. My uterus was delivered whole during my LAVH, but some women have shared that their doctor cut the uterus into at least a few pieces before it was delivered vaginally.

With the TLH--total laparoscopic hysterectomy--typically all of the work is done through the lap incisions and the uterus is cut into pieces and removed through one of the lap incisions. Generally speaking, with the TLH no work is done vaginally.

However, you should check with your doctor about any specific questions as each surgeon can have his/her own unique way of doing surgery and can use terms differently.
