Actually when i wake up tomorrow it will be one more week and lots going on this week. I have to meet with the anesthesiologist friday and my mom comes then too. I don't have to do a pre op but because of possible breathing tube placement complications they need to see me.

I have a halloween party to look forward too saturday.

I just finished a 69 hour week ending with a 12 hour night shift.

My car needs a good cleaning inside (dog hair) and my husband said something today like well you will have 6 weeks off you can do it then. I looked at him and said if you think that then you need to talk to the doctor again. He was like well not at first but closer to the end. I was like um no, not a chance. that is very demanding on the stomach/pelvic area. I don't want to take chances.

Anyways, it has me worried that he is going to have unrealistic expectations with my recovery.

I was working 3 jobs so it was going to be a vacation but i just quit 1 job. I work right up till sunday though.

We are in the process of getting our house painted so it is a mess. I won't be able to just relax with a nice clean house .

It won't be long till my date is on the board.

Your husband's attitude is understandable. Most people, especially men, have never been through something like this, so they can't possibly understand what it's like. I live with my brother and my father, and I had to keep reminding them that I had just had major surgery, and I was still restricted in what I could do - even when our 2 German shepherds were shedding all over the place! When asked to do something you don't think you should be doing, just tell them if you do the wrong thing, it could lead to complications that could leave you out of commission for much longer than if you'd taken the time to recover properly in the first place. And keep saying no until he gets it. And let the house cleaning go for now; you'll do a much better job once you're properly recovered. Best wishes for your surgery and recovery!

Re: single digits

I whispered my concerns to my doctor and she wrote a prescription of what I could and could not do. (She winked at me and besides no heavy lifting or driving till she released my, walk as much as I could/felt like.) But it helped to have it in writing from her - hey I wanted to avoid prolapse etc. You really do have only one chance to heal.

But honest, I ran a crew and helped pressure was a few houses, and moved cattle on the farm about weeks 3 &4. Even then, I wore a tummy support tho, and wasn't contorting my body like you would have to to vacuum a car.

Besides, it really does sound like you deserve a break ) Good Luck

Re: single digits

Hi sweetcanadian -

Men do not understand this. This is MAJOR SURGERY. You are having an important organ removed from your body. You will have lots of internal healing to do. You will be very tired and very sore. You will not be able to lift more than 10 lbs for six weeks, and probably 20 lbs for eight weeks. You will NOT be doing major cleaning. Sometimes even minor cleaning can be difficult and should be avoided.

Have your husband read Mister HysterSisters Guide to Hysterectomy. This will give him a good idea of what you are up against.

Re: single digits

I was also very worried about my husbands reaction to my recovery. I asked my doctor to talk with him after surgery. I told her my concerns and that I needed her help in helping him understand how important this is. She did talk to him about "caregiver Instructions ", and he got most of it. I know it helped.

Good luck with your surgery and recovery and your husband. Your doctor can be a great advocate for you.

You got this!

Re: single digits

thanks ladies.

The doctor did tell him i couldn't do anything and that this was pretty major and i would need his support.

He has torn my house up deciding now is the time to paint in order for us to sell in the spring.

Sometimes he is pretty good but when he gets frustrated or upset he just spews crap without thinking and will be an ***. I know he is going to react like that sometimes during my recovery and it is tough to deal with.

It doesn't help that he is between jobs so home all the time. I wanted to recover alone LOL.

i will show him the link if need be. he doesn't read so i would have to read to him but i can do that
