Post op day 4 after hysterectomy

Woa no one told me there would be so much pain. The first 2 days were pretty intense. I had laparscopic trans vaginal procedure, took everything out. Also I had it done as outpatient...That Was A Joke...is this the ptotocol in other states? I'm in Hawaii. I really needed at Least one day in hospital. No one told me how to get in and out of bed, or about constipation. From this website I received a Lot of helpful information and I feel supported....thank you.
Today I did not take any pain med, and I moved my bowels finally with help of milk of magnesia.

Re: Post op day 4

Hi!

Yeah, you just had major organs removed from your body. While you may not have large external incisions, you have a 3cm-5cm internal excision where your uterus was cut from. That hurts.

I'm glad you had a bm, that really helps.

Is there a reason you stopped your pain meds? If you don't want to take narcotics any longer, that is understandable, but do understand this is a long process, and there is no award for being in pain. In fact, high pain will increase your blood pressure and actually delay healing. If you are able, at least take ibuprofen as directed to help control the inflammation the surgery caused. Continue to push fluids. Eat a light, healthy and fibrous diet. Walk around your home as you can, and rest.

It gets better! Take it easy and allow your body the time to heal.

Re: Post op day 4 after hysterectomy

I also had surgery 1/28, everything removed as well. If you are in pain, please take your pain meds. Putting yourself in undue pain will only add to your recovery or heaven forbid add complications. Drink lots of fluids. It'll keep things moving thru you and help with the constipation. Walking around your home will also help move the gas through and aide in loosing things up to go #2 as well. I resorted to glycerin suppository for my first #2. I was so scared but it all turned out fine. My Dr gave very little post-op instructions other than not lifting anything more than 10# so everything I've learned has been from here. Best thing I can say is- take the ibuprofen and rest.
