No food at all day before surgery?

It says nothing by mouth after midnight....and I don't remember being told not to eat anything or just clear liquids like I had to for the Laparascopy.

I took the Magnesium Citrate HOURS ago and nothings happening.

AND.....I AM STARVING!
I had a bowl of cereal this morning and a few hard pretzels with a diet soda around noon.

Re: No food at all day before surgery?

If your surgery is tomorrow and your instructions say nothing by mouth after midnight. You can still eat now especially since you are starving. You can eat up until midnight. I am sure the Magnesium Citrate will kick in soon. You might want to eat now because after my TAH I was not allowed to eat anything for the first 24 hours after surgery. I was only allowed to have ice water. However, I dont know what kind of hyst you are having, so you might get to eat tomorrow. Good luck tomorrow. I hope all goes well and wish you a speedy recovery. Hugs!

Re: No food at all day before surgery?

I have to do bowel prep the day before my surgery and since I have my paper with instructions sitting here I'll type out what it says...
They Day before surgery:
Drink 1/2 bottle of Magnesium Citrate in the morning and half bottle in the afternoon.
Breakfast- Light breakfast (for example cereal, cream of wheat, juice, coffee)
Lunch-Just liquids (such as custards, Jello, soups, cream of wheat, oatmeal)
Dinner- Just clear liquids (examples include apple juiice, bouillon, tea, ginger ale, coffee)
Administer a Fleet enema to yourself 1 hour before bedtime
Nothing by mouth after midnight.

Hope that helps, thinking of you good luck tomorrow! xoxo
