Vaginal prolapse of small intestine 8 weeks after hysterectomy

I just experienced a scary occurrence as I was on a weekend mini vacation.

At the end of my 8 week post op I experienced an intense cramp all morning. I went to the restroom thinking that it will pass. As I was doing the number one my small intestine decided to peek out about 4-5 inches.
I thought it was a blood clot but it didn't pop out it just protruded out, because it was my small intestine which is much longer then 4-5 inches.
On the mini vacation I had to have paramedics called anf be rushed to the hospital to have emergency surgery. Once again im told not to do much for 6 to 8 weeks.

I'm thinking I brought this on myself, because the week prior I was given thumbs up to go back to working out ...slowly... and to do physical therapy or to work with a personal trainer.
I think I also probably started lifting and in doing a little bit too much too soon.
My question is has anyone else experienced having a vagi prolapse ?

I pray never to go through that experience again. Its been now 2 weeks since that occurrence and I'm trying not to do too much at all. I definitely have not been lifting anything over 5 pounds. I still question if what I'm doing is too much or too little.

I'm listening to my body and it feels like I have a knot in the center of my stomach. I'm scheduled to go see my doctor next week for my follow-up, again I'm curious if anyone else had a prolapse after having a hysterectomy and how you doing with it along with any recovery tips.

Ohhhh...during week 2-3 post opt i had to be hospitalized for a blood clot in my groin/ upper leg and im currently taking xeralto....

Happy / healthy, optimal recovery to us all.

Re: Vaginal prolapse of small intestine 8 weeks after hysterectomy

I am very sorry this happened to you! It sounds like you had a dehiscence or tear in your vaginal cuff, which caused your intestines to protrude from your vagina. This is a very serious complication. I am sorry you needed another surgery to fix this, but very glad you're ok and on the road to healing. Extra TLC for you! Here is an article on this:

Vaginal Cuff Tear: Now What?

Have you had your follow up with the surgeon? Please update us and let us know how you're doing.

Thanks for the Hugs and the very informative article regarding Vaginal cuff tear. As the article noted...this type of tear is a very serious complication and mine was extremely painful.
I was blessed to get immediate attention after beiing rushed to the hospital. It was repaired vaginally after I was given anesthesia due to the pain being unbearable for me.

It has been a little over 2 weeks since my prolapse surgery and I feel like I am progressively healing, getting better and stronger each day. I had my post-op prolase follow-up with my doctor recently, after a thoural checkup and exam she said I am healing well yet I still have a few more weeks of recovery to go before resuming normal activities to ensure no other complications.

I am taking it easy, resting and "Listening to my body"

Hugs and well wishes :

This is a very serious complication indeed! And it must have been a very scary (and painful!) experience for you. I am so glad you received medical attention quickly and are on the mend. This does happen occassionally to our members, hopefully one will see this and chime in with her experience.

Remember: BE the !

I am hoping others do chime in and note their experience / recovery. I got great tips from my doctor yet I welcome hearing from others who have had the same type of prolapse.
The threads of orhers with smilar prolapse have been quite helpful for me.

Also your quote by Christopher Robin resonates with me especially during this time of recovery:

"You're braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think" C.R.

Thank you
