Surgery scheduled for July 24....but...

just two weeks before, the doctor's office has NOT gotten approval for surgery (the hospital is not in my network but my doc only operates at 2 Banner hospitals.). Prev surgery on June 12 WAS approved.

Scheduler said two things; actually more than 2
a) if they dont approve I'd have to find another doctor who DOES operate "in network" and who knows how much of a delay that would be, and the chance that the cancer goes to next stage.

b) people with my insurance HAVE been approved but it's more difficult.

c) wont know til next week what I can use in place of magnesium citrate, since that usually doesnt work for me..
Oh CRAP. I dont need more stress. And i wont know til next week. Meanwhile my sister has to arrange time off.

AND I cant get my cardiologist office to respond by patient portal or appointment scheduler (AND oncologist office sent them request for EKG and clearance letter.)

Re: Surgery scheduled for July 24....but...

My only issue is - have to be at hospital 11am for 1pm surgery. no food since prior midnight, and no water 7 hours before. Clear liquids for 24 hours. and since I cant have water right up to almost surgery time, they will have hard time getting IV's in.

if surgery had been 7 am and they did laparascopic, there's a good chance I could have gone home same day. so i'm guaranteed at lest 1N in hospital.

Dont even get me stared on bowel prep!!

Surgery scheduled for July 24....but...

Me too!!!!! Same times and everything!!! I feel the same way! They already said I have to stay a night. But my veins are rollers and every time they miss them! My last minor surgery they collapsed all the veins in both my hands and arms bruised one end to other! And they waited till I was under general anesthesia to finally get it in!

Re: Surgery scheduled for July 24....but...

We are going to have so many notes to compare. I just wish I had a tablet or smart phone. I'm tempted to get a new phone (I actually NEED a phone) before surgery.

Usually 3 litres of water within 12 hours of needle stick will do it. They told me to drink gatorade. too many calories but the low-cal version is too high in sodium.

I actually and doing water/gatorade NOW in hopes that I can do my pre-op blood tests tomorrow. I remember once they had to do ultrasound to find veins.
