4 Weeks post op with pain and bleeding.

I had a supracervical hysterectomy on January 16, 4 weeks ago today. My ovaries were left, as well as one fallopian tube since it is adhered to my bowel. Up until today, things have been progressing normally. I would occasionally have some light bleeding, and I knew it was normal. I've lost 9 pounds since the surgery, and was even able to get into a pair of loose jeans last week.
This morning at work I got a sharp pain in my lower right pelvic area, and felt weird. I went to the restroom and lo and behold, I'm bleeding. And not just spotting or pink discharge, but full out blood.
I panic, needless to say, because I KNEW it was something abnormal, at least for this point. I call the doctor and they tell me to come in right away.
The on call doctor does an exam and tells me I have my PERIOD. Seriously? MY doctor told me that I would not have anymore. Repeatedly. So what is this bull? I was bawling my eyes out, I can't believe I went through a life changing surgery that I would rather not have had just to have the **** problem still.
I'm 31 years old and unable to have children, yet I'm still going to suffer? And I'm sorry, I've been having periods for 21 years, and this doesn't seem like one. But she did a pelvic and a culture, had a dismissive attitude and almost got hit, to be honest.
I'm calling MY doctor Monday.
Any suggestions? Is this a period? Anyone else experienced this?

Since you have your cervix, yes, you can still have periods. Some of our sisters have said that they tapered off dramatically as the months post-op passed though. Good luck to you!

Thanks for the info. It just confused and upset me because my doctor specifically told me that I would no longer have them, then this on call woman says I will, and her attitude was so cold and dismissive. The bleeding has just about stopped, but I'm still having pain almost equal to the second week of recovery. I am still putting in a call to MY doc tomorrow. If for no other reason than to complain about my treatment Friday.
Thanks again.

I'm so sorry she treated you like that, that was really uncalled for. I've heard that if you keep the cervix that you can still get periods. Afterall the cervix is really just one end of the uterus, so if it's left, you could still have some shedding. I didn't keep mine (no choice for me) so I'm not 100% sure what keeping it really means, just trying to figure out the logic of it myself.

Definitely call your doctor on Monday to get clarification of what you should expect and to let him/her know about your horrible treatment. Bedside manner is a very important skill that this on call doc is definitely lacking.

(((HUGS BACK)))

Thanks. Yes, she is of course not in again today. But I will definitely be getting hold of her. I just don't understand why she would say no more periods if she knew of a possibility of it. I would have asked why she was leaving the cervix or asked her to take it or SOMETHING, you know?
I will definitely post an update.
Thank you.
