Upcoming out-patient supracervical hysterectomy
Im having a supracervical on the 30th. I just was told that I am scheduled as out patient only, which kinda scares me, it seems that a overnight stay is pretty basic. Also, since it is not abdominal, do I need a binder still?

Re: Upcoming out-patient supracervical hysterectomy
I think that out patient is pretty normal in the US after a lot of the less invasive procedures. Trust me, you will appreciate not having to stay in the hospital overnight. I had TAH and they made me spend one night, I tried begging to go home but no dice. It was very boring and not that comfortable in there, although everyone was helpful and nice. You will be happy to get home and spend the night in your own bed, with your own bathroom, etc. Best of luck!

Outpatient is less than 24hrs. I was there for 23 hrs which included an overnight.
Check with your doc at the pre op for clarifications

Re: Upcoming out-patient supracervical hysterectomy
I am having a TLH on 1/16 and they told me I will most likely stay the night. I do not want to and therefore asked to please be the 1st surgery of the day so I have a bigger chance of going home.
I have had enough medical procedures (cancer) over the last few years that I have such bad PTSD and I want to go home asap.
I live within 20-30 mins of 2 major ER's so I'm good there.
But if you feel you want or need to stay, you should be able to!
Best of luck!

Re: Upcoming out-patient supracervical hysterectomy
I was classified as "outpatient extended" and spent one night.
I personally enjoyed my one night. I have two little boys who are very demanding of my attention! I enjoyed the peace and quiet, watched some cable tv (we don't have cable at home), and enjoyed an uninterrupted dinner. Of course I love my family but having that night to myself was nice. I was in a decent amount of pain during the night so it was nice to have the nurses bring me meds. I slept like crap but I guess that's not unusual after anesthesia.

Re: Upcoming out-patient supracervical hysterectomy
Whether or not you use a binder has nothing to do with surgery type. I had abdominal surgery with a vertical incision and never used or wanted a binder. Some other sisters swear by theirs! Also, be aware that some doctors feel that binders slow down healing, while others don't care.
Check with your doctor. If your doctor's okay with binders and you think you might want a binder, get a binder.
