Huge Insurance Gaff

I just got a call (at the close of the business day, no less) from the insurance verification dept. at my hospital that the insurance company does not have an authorization request on file for my surgery that is tomorrow at noon. Called the insurance rep, and they told me to cancel. WTH??? Not like this was an elective surgery! I have freakin' pre-cancerous cells throughout my entire cervix and it would be almost 2 months or more before I could get back on the surgical schedule.

So the dr's office is telling me to go in (of course, they get paid regardless of who signs the check). The hospital is telling me that I have to sign a waiver accepting financial responsibility. And the insurance company is telling me to cancel. I do NOT need this stress on top of everything else. I am supposed to have the BEST insurance in the country (we're military), and now I'm coming out of pocket for something I have to have done to potentially save my life. This just isn't right. It isn't fair.

Thanks for letting me vent.

I'm sorry to hear that you're going through all of this. That is ridiculous! You definitely don't need the added stress. Hope everything works in your favour.
Sending you ((HUGS))

Re: Huge Insurance Gaff

Perhaps they can reschedule but bump you up sooner. For pre ca what does your Dr consider a reasonable time? Can you talk to an ins supervisor/higher up, or can the hospital or Dr's ofc deal with them to expedite the auth? How frustrating for you. My Drs ofc called and got pre auth the same day. Maybe they can get it together and fix you up, I'm hoping for the best.

Re: Huge Insurance Gaff

Bless your heart I feel so sorry for you,you go on in there tomorrow and get it done and worry about that later. The insurance companies just try there best to find reasons to not have to pay but I bet in the end they will pay for it. Good luck tomorrow,I am having a TVH on wednesday the 7th so I am feeling the stress as well as you are. But soon it will all be over with.Good luck girl!

Re: Huge Insurance Gaff

Oh my!!! I'm hoping you got it all worked out and were able to still go ahead with your surgery without this fear hanging over your head too. I know when my doc was trying to find earlier operating room time for me he mentioned that cancern concerns always come first (mine is not in that category). I so hope you get to go ahead with it!!!! ((HUGS))
