Anyone have Sleep Apnea???

I was recently diagnosed with Sleep Apnea and have a CPAP machine to sleep. I am told that they anesthesiologist will monitor during my surgery, but that I should bring my CPAP machine with me to the hospital for the recovery.

Does anyone have any experience with that? I am just getting used to it and am not great at hooking it up...I can imagine with all the comings and goings of medical staff, I will struggle with it.

I have not yet figured out how to talk when the mask is on.

Any information would be helpful.

Thanks

Anyone have Sleep Apnea???

Hi there Rosebud, My Mom has Abstructive Sleep Apnea (wall to wall). During surgery, You already will have oxygen. You will do fine. With your cpap do you have a humidifier included with your machine? Make sure all the parts are cleaned and dried before packing it. There are different cpaps., Make sure you know the number that you need. They will take care of putting it on you and monitoring it throughout the night. I think there is a code for them to do something if it needs to be changed. I remember a woman having to find out by her supplier in hospital. The hospital supplies the distilled water(this is in Canada eh). I think they have a little device to hook up to your cpap to see it is doing its work. The technitions don't always know the new ones. I stayed in hospital throughout the time she was in hospital. She has the one that keeps a record of her sleeps. They know the simple basic ones that their hospital would use. They didn't know how to put it together. I wander if you should bring it up at pre op,, Or even bring it with you. So you won't have problems post op. Let them get fimiliar with your machine. Also, if you go to sleep at a certain time, make sure you tell them ahead of time since they make rounds throughout the hospital. I am sorry, My brain is a little fried ,just came out of the castle this afternoon. I don't think you can talk with those masks. tee hee. I praying for the best for you. Take Care.
