Re: Driving stick shift
That would be a great question to ask your doctor. :-)

Re: Driving stick shift
I agree with Surprised; this is a question only your doctor can answer. I can share my experience though... I was given no restrictions on driving and in retrospect I know I was driving much too soon. I was unprepared for how exhausting it was to shift gears and push the clutch in. My pelvic area ached afterwards as well. I think restrictions should be in place longer if you drive a stick shift.
Generally before driving, we are told to be off narcotics for 48 hours, able to tolerate the seat belt across our tummy, and able to stomp on the brake in case of emergency. It is wise to do a trial run around the block before heading into traffic. Here are some articles:

I hope this helps!

Re: Driving stick shift after hysterectomy
I agree that that's a good question for your doctor.
The guidance I was given was to be off narcotics for 5 days before driving.
I drive a stick, and I have made about 3 local trips. The trips maxed out at about 4 miles from home, and each time I was out for about 30-45 minutes. I was fine, but I didn't have to do a lot of shifting. I feel physically like I could drive a longer distance, but my concern is going out, getting generally tired, and then having to deal with that on the drive home.

Re: Driving stick shift after hysterectomy
I will agree with the others and also share my experience. I was cleared to drive at one week and did drive as soon as I was allowed, I mostly drive a stick, and was able to do it with no problem, however at 3 weeks when my dr said that I was ok to do a 3 hr drive, I drove an automatic for the long drive, Just to be safe.

Re: Driving stick shift after hysterectomy
Manny-tranny all the way at our house, at the time we didn't even have an automatic option (now we do with the addition of TeenGirl's car - but even she had to learn on a stick). I was driving my stick at 2 weeks and had no issues. My commute is 8-9 miles in suburban traffic so I wasn't rolling through all 6 gears. I guess the only concern I'd have is how easily your clutch engages. I'll agree with Coughy that a long drive could be taxing - I opted to be the passenger.

Re: Driving stick shift after hysterectomy
It never occurred to me it might be a problem, since that's the only type car I ever drove. I drove stop and go, in city, so much shifting, at one week. For me, not a problem in any way. But I had little pain anyway. I'd start with a short trip to test the water, once you're cleared. I didn't drive over 30 minutes, either. I love stick shift cars, so I had nothing to compare to.
