when should I be concerned?

I am 9 days post TAH. I have had d diarrhea today, several bouts. It hurts bad to go to the bathroom as it is. This definatelly does not help. I hav'nt ate anything today. No fever, no unusual pain, no redness. Is this normal?

You need to make sure to drink fluids even though you have no appetite, you don't want to get dehydrated. Watch for fever. If your diarrhea persists you should call the Dr.

I'm 5 weeks post-op and have diarrhea ever since my bowels started working again. I talked with my Dr. and the response is that my bowels are "irritate" from surgery, which isn't surprising, because they do get moved about during a TAH. It was suggested that I try to avoid things that would normally irritate bowels, nuts, whole grains (beyond my usual diet), spicy food, etc. That hasn't really helped. What HAS helped is that I spoke with the pharmacist and she recommended liquid immodium AD. That way I can take a partial dose so I don't accidentally get constipated. By the way, if you were told to take a stool softener, don't unless your stools solidify a little. Also, I'm taking a acidopholous tablet a day to help restore natural bacterial balance to the GI tract. Little by little I'm getting better (5 weeks post-op), but I'm being very careful. thanks for the info. I stopped using stool softner for a couple of days now. I thaught I was getting better until today. I was walking alot yesterday though. I didn't know if that had much to do with it.

WOW 9 days seems to be when our bowels seem to act up! quite a few of us girls are having the same type issues, and it all started around the same time, guess it's from all the moving around of everything in there i was shocked to see just how close our colons our to our female stuff. hope ya feel better soon.

I've had the same symtoms the past two days. I also started walking more at this time. Maybe all the extra activity has got things really moving !

Mine started today! I'm 18 days post-op, and haven't had any bowel troubles until now. I'm hoping it is short lived!! Gas bubbles are a killer right now!!!! OUUUCH!!

I was soooo constipated the first two days home that I thought I was going to die. It killed my back to try and push so I took Milk of Magnesia and first I had diareah for a couple of days but I was so thankful for that rather than the other. Our pour bodies are so out of whack right now they don't know what to do. Hope you feel better.

My bowel problems began the day after surgery and didn't let up for weeks. I'd blink and have diarrhea. It was awful. I was running fever with mine, but was told that it was more due to the after effects of the anesthesia than an intestinal infection. Just when I was convinced that it wouldn't stop, it did. Hang in there, but if it really and truly worries you, call the doctor. Hope it gets better for you!!!!

Wow I guess all that working inside of us ladies does wonders... Just kidding... It took a bit for my first BM - little rabbit ones - then last Saturday,,,, stomach cramps - and as I sat on the toilet thank God I had a bucket near me - yes sorry to say both ends. I am more concerned with you not eating.... well at least taking in fluids.... With surgery one may be hypovolemic - fluids are very important!!! If this persists as stated above with a fever call ASAP!!! You can try the clear diet or BRAT diet - (Banana, Rice, Apples, Tea) FLUIDS FLUIDS
