Lupron worked for me!

I notice that we have a bunch of threads where people talk about the down side of Lupron. I would like this to be a space where those of us (and maybe it's just me...) who have had good experiences with the med can talk about it. I think it could be helpful and hopeful to women to hear the good, along with the challenging.

I'll go first.

I'm 40, I have never had a pregnancy, I've had chronic pelvic pain since onset of menses (so, close to 30 years). I tried lots of things--lap procedure to remove adhesions (oh, I have endo--oddly presenting endo, but endo nonetheless); ibuprofen, ultram, percocet, vicodin; pain specialist who suggested that al-anon could set me free; pain psychologist; biofeedback; chiro; and massage.

Vicodin took enough of the edge off that i could function at work, so that was the winner for a very long time--and then it stopped taking the edge off. After lots of reading and research, consults with many docs and talking it over with my wife (who's also a CNM--so helpful!), I tried Lupron in July.

I was scared to death. It had been on the table for a long time, but I've read the accounts of side effects and the idea of dealing with something in my body for THIRTY DAYS with possible terrible effects? No thanks.

Surgery's my final attempt--so in order to confirm that the TLH is the way to go, I trialed Lupron.

It. Changed. My. Life. For the first time, I had a month with ZERO PAIN. I'm not exaggerating. I went from about 23 days/30 with pain to 0/30.

I had night sweats and hot flashes. I had some fuzzy memory moments. I had some days when I was crankier than I ought to be but, really, nothing that was too hard to handle.

Who else has had a good experience with Lupron?

Re: Lupron worked for me!

Hi
I too was put on Lupron. Once a month for 3 months I received an injection in my Dr.'s office. I felt great. My iron levels went up because the insane bleeding stopped! The only side effect I had was night sweats. Without the Lupron I was facing a hysterectomy with a vertical cut because of the size and placement of my fibroids. In the end, the doctor tried a laparoscopic hysterectomy but had to do a bikini cut because there was some fibroid attached to my cervix. Nevertheless, it is still a quicker recovery than what I was originally facing!
