Oh My Hairy Incision

I can't explain how most of my belly and incision feel numb, but the little hairs sproting along the incision are driving my crazy. They itch. I wish I were brave enough to get waxed prior to surgery; I don't know if it would have helped. I usually use a dipilatory. Too late to say what I should have done. What do I do now? My doctor told me not to put any strong soaps or powders near the incision so I am guessing shaving or a dipilatory is out of the question.

Oh and can I whine for a minute...I can't use any of the extra cute smilies waaaahhhhh! i figure the would help emphasize my situation!! Ok I am being silly.

I know what you mean! I guess we just need to be patient. I wouldn't dare put anything on it or near it but would like to get rid of the stray hairs.

I had a couple of similar things...but the "hairs" were actually the ends of some dissolving stitches just underneath the skin that hadn't dissolved yet. They appeared 8 days after surgery, when I had my staples out.

If your incision isn't too tender, I found a gentle swipe with rubbing alcohol really helped the itching. With a very slight pressure, I found it removed the dead cells, which were half the problem.

I did it one way across the incision, then back again.

Was that a RELIEF!

I might try that. I am a bit squimish thinking what if there is a slightly open part. Wouldnt that just sting!

Well, I tried it about 10 days in. I didn't really focus on the incision itself so much, as to the stitchy bits.

I'd watch out for a slightly open part in the incision itself. Try this on a 'safe' area first to get the hang of it.

Also - I use cotton cosmetic pads, NOT the fluffy round things!

wow...kinda wish i had this problem...my incision line is about 1-2 inches above my hairline. even though it's a pain for you now, you could hide your incision line with the hair if you wanted to. mine is too high. not sure why mine is so much higher than yours? i do know i was told that my uterus was so large, she hoped she could get it through a horizontal cut instead of vertical...do you think maybe that's why it's higher? helped to get everything out of there okay without having to go vertical??

My incision is also 1-2 inches above the hairline, possibly because it was a lap that turned into an open procedure when they saw how bad my endometriosis was. Everything was glued together, even my appendix! Incision is about 6-7 inches long; I think they needed a fairly large one to get everything out and clean everything up. I had my TAH on May 29 and am doing very well-incision completely healed although I have a hematoma that we are keeping an eye on. It doesn't bother me, though. I took a 5 hr car trip yesterday to see the grandbaby and feel very good today.
