Stomach and intestinal problems

Hi,
I'm not a baby but....4 weeks post-op and my stomach bothers me sometimes (alot) after eating and every morning it takes me three or more times in the bathroom to empty my bowels with pain and cramping to go along with it. My doctor says it's normal but is there anything anyone can suggest to take to ease the discomfort? I hear this is mostly normal but it's just becoming something I can't stand much longer.Any Suggestions?

Stomach and intestinal problems

I had similar problems a few weeks ago. I suffered through it thinking it was normal & my body adjusting. Finally I called my doctors office & the nurse told me that she wished I would have called earlier because all I needed to do was take 2 imodiums and then 1 additional imodium 6 hours later. I did and felt immediate relief. I didn't have another BM for the next 2 days but when I did it was normal and I didnt have those awful cramps. Ask your doctors office if this is a possible solution for you.

I too am having severe gas pains and pressure, and I literally had to grab the wall when I went to have a BM. My dr told me too take GAS-X and it made a world of difference. You may want to give your dr a call and see what they recommend.

Do ask your dr which OTC would work best for your situation. All the organs in your pelvic region are moved around during a hyst so your colon is probably protesting from being moved around during surgery.

Best wishes to you!

I am startng to wonder if I have a bowel obstruction...I amd 7 weeks pot op and never have had any bowel probs before on my 3 other surgeries... But this one---I have to take something to go at all and when I do go it isn't near enough. I eat and look immediately pregnant and very bloated....I feel like there's nothing going on down in the lower part of stomach, at all, and I have taken every thing on the market.....I had my 6wk appt and all my Dr did was prescribe a laxative, but I am worried that is not the problem

Are you eating enough fiber? I have bowel problems like yours unless I eat high-fiber cereal every day. If necessary, I eat it twice a day until things normalize. If I slack off on the cereal even one day, I will get constipated.

I really haven't changed the way I am eating, but I have never had any problems w/ BM's before my surgery in Oct??? Hopefully it will get better....

Surgery can cause the bowels to be sluggish for weeks or even months after sugery (especially if the abdomen is tampered with) even if they never caused problems before surgery. Most women do have to either eat more fiber or take laxatives or stool softeners after surgery. It's surprising and annoying that it takes so long for the bowels to get back to normal, but it's typical.

Good luck!
