MRSA 4 months after TAH HELP!!!!!

Hi All,

Please be patient as my story is a long one. I am looking for anyone who has had some similiar experience with MRSA after their hysterectomy. I was supposed to have a Laprascopic Procedure done on April 2nd. Things went awry and they had to change it to a TAH. I went home 2 days later and healed fairly well except for one littl hole that my gyn drained for me twice. It finally healed at the end of May. Woohoo, not!!! I July 5th I noticed this lump under my incision and it was the size of a ping pong ball. I went to the Dr on Monday and they said there wasnt alot they could do, I went to the gyn and he told me to watch it and wait. I did until July 10th when I could no longer take the pain and swelling. He popped it open and it drained and drained and then he sent me to the wound clinic 4 days later. They did a culture of it sent me home with gentomyacin and told me they would see me in a week. A week later they told me I had MRSA. GREAT!!! Now the wound is still open (the size of a pencil eraser) I have taken bactrim for 7 days, used bactroban for 5 days, gentamyacin creme for almost two months and I keep getting boils popping up. I had two show up on my vaginal area and they gave me 10 more days of Bactrim and now this past Saturday I had 11 bumps show up on my stomach near the wound so I am on another 10 days of Bactrim and yet they wont send me to an Infectious Disease Dr. I am so afraid of dying I cant even tell you. Now they want to open the wound back up to do some exploratory surgery saying they believe I have a sticth that did not heal.

Please if you can shed any light on this for me. My life sucks right now and I am trying to stay positive but finding harder and harder to do so. If I am going to break out with MRSA boils for the rest of my life what kind of life is it? I havent had sex since my surgery, I cant swim, go to the beach, take a bath, drink a glass of wine. UGH, I am so frustrated.

Thanks so much for listening...

Hugs,
Nancy

Re: MRSA 4 months after TAH HELP!!!!!

Gosh, Nancy. I don't have a lot of advice, but you sure have my sympathy and prayers. Can you get a second opinion from another surgeon about what's going on? Maybe this new surgery will finally sort things out for you, but it might not hurt to talk to another doctor about what's happening. Best of luck to you!

I don't have any advice either. I just wanted to say I am so sorry for what you are going through. I don't think it could hurt to see another doctor either if you don't feel they are doing everything they can for you. Best wishes.

Have you read any information regarding hydrogen peroxides effectiveness against MRSA? Do a google search.

Re: MRSA 4 months after TAH HELP!!!!!

Did they not swab you for MRSA before surgery?

is such a simple test to do and if you are a carrier they will treat you before surgery.

Every sergery i have had wher ei am has swabbed me for it and have told me if i have it i go on what ever drugs Before surgery.

I would of course get a second opinion what they are currently doing is not working scram at them its your life and they are not helping it.

Good luck best wishes

Re: MRSA 4 months after TAH HELP!!!!!

I have a very similar situation going on right now. TLH in June, readmitted w/ sepsis after, haven't felt well since. Same issue w/ one of my incisions and so on. I am seeing an Infectious Disease specialist because my gyn felt issues this far out were not related to surgery and treatment for them were beyond her scope. Well i guess when i have been asking during every visit (I was there almost every other week for something) why is this taking so long to feel better (I have had other surgeries, never had issues like this), why the incision where i had horrible pain from day one wasn't healing - call me silly but it seems to me the infection has been there from the start. The ID doc stated that these were hospital acquired infections. He actually apologized and said he was sorry for what I was going through. I understand infection is a risk of surgery, what upsets me is they made me second guess myself. I work in the medical field and can't believe the hoops I had to jump through to get timely appointments to deal with post op complications. Can I ask where you had your surgery?
