Abdominal binder question
I tried an abdominal binder yesterday because I feel like I need some support...feels like my insides fall to the floor when I stand up. Well, it kind of hurts to wear it. I am 2 weeks and 2 days post op..is it too early to wear one? Or is it normal for it to be uncomfortable.
??????????

Re: Abdominal binder question
You may need a larger size than what you would normally wear. Can you possibly get someone to purchase you a girdle in another size (or go to the store if you're able...) and try it out to see how it feels?

Re: Abdominal binder question
Hi sandycheeks,
I went out and bought a binder from a pharmacy before my surgery and then realized I could get one from this website that is made for woman after a hysterectomy. I never ended up trying the one I bought at the pharmacy because it looked so rigid relative to the one from hystersisters - even though it was supposed to be both for back issues and for after abdominal surgery. In contrast the one from hystersisters is very flexible - it has an elastic region that you place around your abdomen. If I pull it too tight it can be uncomfortable - but that is real easy to change. So I would say that no it shouldn't hurt. It might be because of the type you are using if its not super elastic or because you are putting it on too tight. I love the one I have from hystersisters. I have been using it from about 2-3 weeks post op whenever I go for my walks, drive or go out to a friends. And now I wear at work. It makes me feel so much better - giving me lots of support. I also feel like I have an extra protective layer when I have it on.

Re: Abdominal binder question
So sorry your struggling. When I first used mine I put it on by laying it open on the bed first then laying on my back then genlty fastening it. Make sure it's firm to gentle pressure. It shouldn't be like a belt cinching you in. By starting on my back it kind of made things settle in the right place before fastening. If it's still uncomfy just give yourself some time and try it again in a couple of days it may just be to much to soon. Take care.

Re: Abdominal binder question
Although I used a binder for abdominal surgery that I had years ago, I bought the swelly belly band, and like the feel of it. Like someone above mentioned, you may want to get the large size (I did) then it is adjustable with a velcro closure. I wish I could get it to stay dry, though, rather than wet.
They also sell stretchy panties that I may try when I go back to work.
Good luck!

Re: Abdominal binder question
I think its probably too rigid...its just a bunch of bands of elastic..not very soft at all.

Re: Abdominal binder question
I got the Tummy pack through hyster sisters and it was perfect. I unfortunately have had 3 surgeries that required a full hip to hip incision (endometriosis),and this was the first time I used a support band. It was sooooooooo great. I know the exact sensation of insides becoming outsides you were describing. If you can order a support band thru hyster sisters mine is very comfortable .The cooling belt is awesome also and really was soothing and helped with swelling and the stingy burny pulling pain at the incision site. Good luck.

Re: Abdominal binder question
Another option is getting a Spanx girdle or camisole from the department store or Lane Bryant (depending on your size). I got mine from Lane Bryant and it is a LIFE SAVER. Helps my poor belly so much, is soft, and puts the necessary pressure on my belly that I feel well supported and contained.

Re: Abdominal binder question
They gave me an abdominal binder in the hospital- had it on when I woke up in room. It was very comfortable to wear. I used it for about 4-5 days but after I got home it seemed more in the way than helping so I quit using it. I tried it on again the next week but it just wasn't comfortable- but then I never did feel like things were falling out.
