No pain meds and in pain!

Hi all,
The past few days I've been in a lot of pain, mostly low left back, but today internal pelvic pain and just basic achy feelings. I have been taking Ibiprofin 800mg and no longer take the Percocet. The doctor does not want me to take any more Narcotics. Which is understandably fine, however, is there anything a little stronger than the IB800mg that the dr. would allow for the pain???? I think I'm more needing a muscle relaxant but I dont' know if Dr. would be a poop about it and tell me to "just deal with it". Your thoughts.

No pain meds and in pain!

Hey Sunny423,

I would strongly suggest you speak to your pharmacist. I feel the people in this profession are brilliant and so knowledgable yet are overlooked when we need advice.

When my meds were getting low my hubby went to the drug store and had a chat with our pharmacist who helped in the biggest way.

I think it is hard to heal when we are expending so much energy dealing with pain.

Hugs,
Tracy
PS Please keep us posted.

No pain meds and in pain!

Hi, there.
I hope this helps - I came home with 20 percosets and that was about it. When they were gone, they were gone - I am a recovering alcoholic (8 years sobreity) and really don't want to be on narcotics unless completely necessary. Well, let me tell you - I felt like it was COMPLETELY necessary long after they were gone. Lol.
So, I learned that alternating Advil (gelcaps, always) with Extra Strength Tylenol every 4-6 hours helped. I think it definitely slows recovery to be in pain. I'm at awe at the women who experience NO pain, or very little....it was not the case for me.

No pain meds and in pain!

The only OTC (over the counter) meds to take are ibuprofen or aleve. There really is not anything stronger. I work in a pharmacy.

You could try and call your Dr again. My Dr gave me a second prescription for pain meds when I went for my 10 day post op check up. He asked me if I thought I needed more pain meds and I told him I thought so for a few more days and then if I over did it. I still have some left but it was good to know it was there.

I did take a muscle relaxer for a few days and it did help me alot. The Dr may be willing to give you that since they are not a narcotic.

Good Luck, remeber you know your body the best!!! (thats what my Dr says!!!)

No pain meds and in pain!

Hi Robin aka Soulmates,

Can you not get Tylenol 1 with Codeine or
Robaxacet (muscle relaxant and acetaminophen combination) OTC where you live? They would be helpful for Sunny wouldn't they?

Perhaps you are more restricted with your OTC meds than we are in Canada.

Thanks for the reply ... we learn as we go.

Hugs,
Tracy

Tracy,
No unfortunately, they are not OTC in the USA. Both would be good but they are prescription here.

No pain meds and in pain!

Thanks Ya'll,
I don't want to be on pain medication for the record but I'm a baby...and a whimp. I did call the Dr. office and they gave me Tylenol 3. My hubby filled it tonight and I can't tell ya yet if it's working but I'm going to head to bed early and hopefully I'll sleep a little better. I just wanted to thank you for your replies. I really feel like Hystersisters is part of my family.
Hope all is healing well.
Sunny

Hey Robin,

Thanks for your response. Wow! I am learning so much more from Hystersisters than one could imagine. Note to self ... next time you go to US take pain meds just in case as OTC meds hard to get ... LOL

Hey Sunny,

Glad you got some 3's and hope you feel better soon. I am a big wimp and took meds for longer than most.

Hugs for all my precious sisters!
