13 days post vaginal hysterectomy - soreness and discharge with odor

I am 13 days post op TVH kept ovaries. Up to now I've had really no pain or discharge. Today I have developed a twinge of soreness, from what feels like the top of my vagina (where the cuff is). I also noticed a very light flow of pinkish red discharge that has an odor. Ive never smelled anything like it...not terrible, but not good either. Whats happening??

13days post op TVH, kept ovaries. 43 years old.

Re: 13 days post op TVH

You're healing!

The discharge is the first round of scar tissue sloughing off your vagina cuff, like a scab. No discharge, light discharge, even a medium discharge during healing is all totally normal. As long as you aren't bleeding so heavy that you are soaking a maxi pad within an hour, it's normal.

Healing isn't linear. It's a roller coaster, especially as you become more active. You will have good days and bad days. Vaginal and internal pain, pressure and swelling is quite normal. Many (me!) experience rectal pain and pressure, as well. Rest, ice (on your belly and in your underwear, I used a water soaked frozen maxi pad, others use frozen veggies) works well) as well as an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen or Aleve will help.

Make sure you're eating healthy, hydrating, walking, resting and having normal bowel movements.

Hang in there! It gets so much better!
