Changing doctors?

Hi-I had a Davinci total hyster on March 29. I met my surgeon ONCE- in her office, she did not see me before or after my surgery. I had a follow up at 2 weeks with the APRN in her office. Following that I began to bleed copious amounts of bright red blood with large clots. I frantically called the office and they told me I was fine. It continued thru the night and I called again in the morning, only to be told-we told you yesterday you are fine. I ended up in the emergency room over the weekend, the blood was pouring out like crazy and the clots were the size of duck eggs. No one from that office ever called to follow up. Presently I'm back at work this week and I ran out of the 800 mg ibuprofen and I called 2 days ago for a refill and have not heard a word. I'm in a lot of pain. So my question is, I don't like this woman nor do I trust her. I had my surgery due to cancer, she said they got it all, no spreading. All I need is a few more follow up visits. I don't want to see her, would another doctor accept me as a patient at this point????

Re: Changing doctors?

and I'm so sorry to read about the lack of concern from your surgeon. Had I been in your situation, I would not want to see her again either, and I'd want to switch doctors. Get recommendations from coworkers, friends, your GP or oncologist. You want adequate, trustworthy care; you're not getting it, and there are doctors willing to listen to their patients' concerns.

As to whether another doctor would accept you as a patient, you won't know unless you make those phone calls. Given that your surgery was for cancer, you'll want to have those follow ups. You can request a transfer of medical records to your new doctor - talk to your new doctor about it, as they might have a properly formatted authorization form. I changed dermatologists when I started working closer to home for no other reason than convenience and requested a records transfer. It was no problem.
