hormone suprise when I kept ovaries
Hi ladies. Just wanted to give you a heads up with what happened to me.
On the 27th I had a Lap partial hyster (kept ovaries and cervix). Everything went well. On the 31st I drove my car. I was very careful and had a pillow in between me and the seat belt. The next morning, I felt like I had overdone it a little. I laid down on the couch and my husband went to the neighbors house for about an hour to help him with a prearranged thing. Before he left, he made sure I was ok and had anything I needed. Before I continue, let me tell you that we have been married ten years and have had three fights. My husband has learned that when we fight, he needs to leave me alone and let me calm down. I always say I have the best marriage to the greatest guy. Also my PMS is limited to crying at commercials. So what happens next is very out of the norm for me.
The next thing I know, I'm really upset that he left me for an hour and I go to take a shower and have a HUGE cry. He comes home and while he is in the shower, I get in the car and drive off. I turn off my phone and am gone for 1 1/2 hours. My husband is going crazy but when I get home, I tell him that he loves the neighbor more than me and only came home cause he had to go to the bathroom! He is apologetic but I won't hear any of it. I lock myself in the bedroom for the rest of the day and night. Somewhere about 9:30 pm, I crying so much that I am all stuffed up and go to sit on the tolit to blow my nose. I stay there until about 11 pm rocking and crying. I start thinking that the doc lied about leaving my ovaries and it isn't until that I start thinking about divorce that I get an inkling that something is very wrong. I call my husband and he comes running in and takes over. He takes my temp and my blood sugar (pre-diabetic) and wants to call the doc. By that time, I realized it was hormones and all was better except for the puffy and red nose and eyes.
So please be aware that just because you keep your ovaries, the hormones may still kick you in the gut. I was fine the next day - well except for the horrible constipation. But that is for another post.

hormone suprise when I kept ovaries
beeker10,
I'm surprised as well. The doc was all happy at the hospital about saving my ovaries and saying he was sending me home and I wouldn't need any hormones. Well, had something sililar happen with DH (who has been mostly wonderful taking care of me --although he's getting a little cranky now--too much time with the kids--can't wait for school tomorrow. heehee) I am also surprised with the nightsweats and hot flashes, cold flashes and weepy spells over every little commercial and movie. I'm normally not quite this moody. It's driving me crazy!! I can't wait to tell the doc when I see him! This has not been quite the picnic he seemed to think it would be since I had it done laprascopically.

hormone suprise when I kept ovaries
Hey guys, alot of times your ovaries go into shock after the trauma of a hysterectomy and stop working for a little while.
Give them a little time to get going again. Plus, you've been through a major surgery, this isn't like having a wart removed. Remember how nervous you were before your surgeries? Then recovering and being stuck in the house and things going undone, etc. This is would be hard on anyone. And, yes, your hormones are out of whack right now. Give yourselves a break. Trust me, EVERYONE has a little "breakdown" at some point after a hysterectomy. It's normal. It will get better. Just give it a little time. Best wishes.

hormone suprise when I kept ovaries
My doc prepared me for this! I kept one ovary and I gotta tell you in the past week I have had a few really NASTY hot flashes, PMS stronger than ever, etc. But he told me this might happen around the 4 week mark. Weird, cuz here I am at week 5! I have an appt with him Wednesday and plan to ask if this is all here to stay or just because of the shock. I forgot to ask him last time.

hormone suprise when I kept ovaries
Hi beeker, ladies...
I know the feeling; I am a fairly stable character, but the hormones have me in an amazing headlock!!!
I kept both my ovaries, but have had night sweats, hot flushes and headaches since the surgery. In fact, when I saw my Dr on Thursday, he sent me for a blood test to see if I was menopausal. He said there was a possibility I was perimenopausal prior to surgery. If I am not menopausal, I guess I will join a very long list of women whose ovaries just went AWOL for a while.
Unfortunately; despite the fact my husband of almost 16 years, has been pretty fantastic through this whole debacle, he is starting to show signs of the man I have grown to know and dislike. Hmmm...better not go there.
I am happy you have a wonderful marriage, and realized in time that you were just hormonal. May you have a very long and wonderful marriage. Bless you both.

It's true because you got to keep your ovaries . Your hormones will go out of whack. Two weeks ago I was mad at my family everyday for stupid stuff. I had hot flashes at night and early morning and cool during the day. I am balancing out more now. I have to keep myself in check at all times.

Wow! I am so sorry that happened. I'm 6 wks post-op today (kept ovaries) and I can honestly say I haven't shed 1 tear since my TAH. But I have noticed that every 2 weeks now, I am feeling gritchy and a bit irritable. But wow, I'm so sorry you had such a rough hormonal time of it.

to countrybunch: I am feeling very similar to you and I don't have a clue what to do! I am highly agitated and I can't sleep. This has been going on for about five days. I'm giving this a few more days and then I am calling the doctor. If I don't get some sleep tonight I'm not sure what I'll do! I had a TAH a week after you. EEEEKKK! I hope this gets better.

Mine did the same thing - shut down in protest and let me have it. I was a hysterical, sobbing, sweaty, tired and unreasonable mess. Then I found the hormones went to the other extreme once my ovaries started working again with pimples and oily skin, but things have definitely balanced out now and things are back to "normal". Probably took 3 months before things started to feel right again, hormonal-wise.
