Unable to pass gas 3 days post hysterectomy.

So I'm 3 days out and still. Have not been able to pass gas. I have burned a few times but that is it. I have sharp gas pains and know I need to but I can't get it out. No bm yet either. Any ideas on how to fart to relieve some pressure? My tummy is really hurting right now, I can't see good because everything is blurry do please forgive any typos. Thanks!

Re: Unable to pass gas

I did not pass gas till late on day 3. Are you taking a stool softener 2 x a day? Also, drink a lot of water, and walk, walk, walk around your house. Moving helps a lot.
I did not have a bm till day 5.
Try not to worry, as everything is gradually waking up and it will happen!

Re: Unable to pass gas 3 days post hysterectomy.

I would also suggest some Miralax to the mix.. I had this issue, Just keep an eye on what is going on, keep a log.. so glad i did.. I found out the hard way that surgery really stresses the body. I ended up in hospital 3 times after surgery, just got out last week with the last one, I ended up with Diverticulitis and I promise that pain is like no other I have had. now that I look back.. i could not pass gas, bowel. nothing.. and ended up straining way to hard for the one I finally had but only with the help of enema. keep in mind, this does not happen to everyone.. It is a bit uncommon to have such severe diverticulitis after hysterectomy.. so I am not saying that you will have that problem.. just saying stay on top of the bowel issue.. Miralax, water, prunes, dried apricots work well now for me. I believe i did not stay on top of this at first and worsened my condition.. I am still fighting this infection.. Good Luck.. hope something happens for you

Try two tablespoons of milk of magnesia. My doctor advised me and it worked on day three. I eat prunes too and bowel buddies biscuits for added fiber. Good luck.

GasX, stool softener, Miralax and prunes. I am in remission with ulcerative colitis and my GI warned me to not allow myself to get constipated. The above quadruple whammy worked like a charm! Had a BM on day 3.

Re: Unable to pass gas 3 days post hysterectomy.

I used gas x and stool softners. Walking helps a lot, I know it's not fun right now. I would take an extra lap when I went to the rest room.

I hope you get relief soon!!

Re: Unable to pass gas 3 days post hysterectomy.

I drank a LOT of water while in the hospital (day 1 & 2 ) Now that I'm home for day 3 I've been drinking a mix of prune & apple juice. I just this afternoon added some Miralax to the juice. I took the GasX first thing this mornign and again a bit ago. I'm trying to stay ahead of the gas and constipation. So far so good. Already had a BM. I'm trying to get up and moving every few hours. At least around the room - stare out the window. I think that helps the gas too.

Hugz!!! Hope you get the gas moving soon!

I also had LAVH on May 7 and am having bad gas pains, but moving around like waking, belly rubbing, and sitting straight up helps alot. wishing you well!

Re: Unable to pass gas 3 days post hysterectomy.

Thanks for this thread. Just got home from mine today & the pain I'm having is from the gas. It's worse than the surgery. I'm walking, took probiotics, & going to take a stool softener tonight. Would it be too early? I've got Gas-X too. I hope it dissipates soon. I plan on getting some prune juice tomorrow.

Good luck to you all. This too shall pass.
