12 days post-op when do you start hrt?

Thank you for everyone who has posted here! I found this website a month before my surgery and it has helped me through all my range of emotions. Now I have a question - I had my surgery 12 days ago and had my ovaries removed and was wondering when to start hrt? My Dr didn't start me on hrt after surgery because I had been on lupron and had no estrogen (or very little in me) at the time. Hot flashes have started - but not bad. Not sure what other symptoms I'm looking for either.

Hugs to all!

Welcome Magpie. I started estradiol 1mg (then bumped up to 2 mg because I was very cold from inside out) the 2nd day after surgery. I would call and ask your doctor.

Re: 12 days post-op when do you start hrt?

Hi.
I had my TAH. BSO at 10pm on 3/17/10 (emergency due to hemorrhaging 10 months after novasure ablation). I was put on vivelle dot Friday the 19th. I am 51 and before surgery I only had occasional hot flashes. So far I am feeling great with no moodiness or hot flashes. The surgery instantly took away all my back pain, reflux , and peeing when I coughed or sneeezed. So far I am glad I did this!

Re: 12 days post-op when do you start hrt?

Hi,
I had my LAVH on 3/3/10. I started on Premarin three days after my surgery. I was heading towards menopause prior to my surgery (I'm 53). The hysterectomy just made the trip that much faster. I had been having hot flashes for over 2 years prior to surgery. After my hysterectomy (Doc removed ALL female organs) I had intense hot flashes. The next symptom to his me was bursting into tears for no reason at all. I knew I couldn't have that. I work with small children. For me to burst into tears in front of them would've been frightening for them. That's when I called my doctor. We had talked about HRT prior to the surgery. He told me to call him when I started to have symptoms. He did have to bump up my dosage 2 weeks after I started taking HRT.

Re: 12 days post-op when do you start hrt?

I started on HRT when I was in the hospital after surgery. For me it has been a huge improvement on my moods, and no more sore breasts! ~ and only a few hot/cold flashes for me. So far I'm glad to be on HRT. Everyone is different, so check with your doctor and see what he recommends and I also recommend researching the different types of HRT to see which one you feel most comfortable with.

Gentle hugs

Re: 12 days post-op when do you start hrt?

I started 4 hours after sugery - mega hot flashes same day while recovering. Now on .1 Vivelle patch - no hot flashes or emotional ups & downs with it.
Best of luck to you!

Re: 12 days post-op when do you start hrt?

I started immediately after surgery. They put a patch on while in the recovery room. I am now on the .1 Vivelle patch, and it seems to be working. I do not have a lot of energy yet, I am assuming it is because I am 5 weeks post-op, not the hormones.

Re: 12 days post-op when do you start hrt?

Good morning!

I had my hyst at a teaching hospital, so I had many residents come in and out. One told me that I would leave the hospital with a prescription and one told me that I would get it at my six week check up. I had to go to my doctor 5 days after to get the cath removed and asked him about it (I had forgotten to before I left the hospital) and he pretty much left it up to me. Since I had hormone issues before the hyst, I chose to start them right away. I think it is a personal choice. Just my opinion!

Hi jfmiller,
Did you have an abdominal hysterectomy? Did you have any other work done while they were in there?
