Essentials

I'm having a total laproscopic hysterectomy (they will be removing uterus cervix tubes and possibly 1 or both ovaries) What are the essentials I should have ready for my recovery I will not be staying the night at the hospital and just want to make sure I'm prepared Thanks!

Re: Essentials

Two links you might find useful are Preparing Your Home and 10 Prep Tips.

You'll have post-op restrictions, especially regarding lifting, but you'll likely not be able to bend, push-pull, reach or twist, either. That means giving up the heavier house work - you wouldn't think that sweeping or mopping is high impact but it uses abs that will be out of commission. This is a good "heads up" article on what's going on with our bodies post-op - Body Mechanics.

So pre-op I cleaned to the point of nesting, decluttered, and put things in easy reach for when hubs went back to work and while TeenGirl was at school. Best thing I did by far was prep freezer meals, hospitality meals eventually run out, and it was good for pre-op stress, too. I stocked up on frozen and fresh easy-prep veggies to go with those meals. Check your selection of comfy, non-binding clothes. I went for elastic-waisted skirts, skorts, shorts and pants - wide soft waistbands like the type found yoga pants or workout clothes worked the best. Find a cozy recovery area. I preferred the hub's easy chair in the living room with strategically placed throw pillows to keep me in a reclining position. Have a project you can work on from that reclining position (I had 2 years worth of magazines to go through). Record some TV shows or select something to binge watch on those days where you need more rest. Get a reacher (grabber) to make it easier to pick things up off the floor. Are you recovering on your own, or do you have family? Accept offers of help for grocery runs and other errands.

The articles section for Hysterectomy Preparation has links to just about every question you might have... almost overwhelming! Stick with HysterSisters and the fantastic ladies here will guide you.
