Passing out before passing gas

I think with the bowel prep we do before surgery, it washes out all the "good" intestinal flora in there, so I've been eating tons of yogurt and taking a pro-biotic and been having regular bowel movements since the day of surgery. Make sure you walk a lot! Walking is the best for getting out the gas, and I also have been taking over the counter Phayzyme for gas. Even sips of club soda with bitters in it will make you burp lots of gas out too. I've been eating lots of yogurt, cottage cheese and soups - things that are easy to digest and it has helped my system tremendously. Hang in there, it takes about a week for the gas to really move...

I also heard that laying on your left side and drinking warm liquids helps pass the gas. Walking and warm tea helped me the most.

I had a better day today and actually was able to have BM. :banana I stopped the narcotics it made me too constipated and hyper for some reason. I take IBprophin. I also took a walk that may have helped. Tea, applesauce, cottage cheese.
I am really thankful for all the tips and support.

Hi, I had really painful gas in the hospital 2nd & 3rd day after surgery. What worked for me was walking. I walked in the halls for 10 minutes and then slept for 40 minutes and then sat on the toilet for 10 minutes and then started all over again.

I spent one whole night on this rotation and it really seemed to help. I was afraid that the walking was too much too soon but the nurses told me it was the best thing to get rid of the gas and they were right.

Now I am home and 1 week post op I don't have the gas pains anymore but I try and remember to walk each hour so it doesn't happen again.
