Re: Did I really need TAH

Holy crow!! I guess the "normal" weight for a uterus was not something that I asked my doctor about. I know he told me that I had "several" tennis ball sized fibroids, and "multiple" fibroids that were marble to golf ball size. I was told that my uterus weighed 400+ grams, nearly 500 grams. I never thought to ask how big it should be, but I guess it was really big!

I had had an endometrial ablation in 2005, which took care of my heavy bleeding and chronic anemia. I was very pleased with the results. However, when I was told I would have to have a hyster after all, due to fast growing fibroids, I was angry. I almost felt betrayed by my body. However, after I spoke with my doctor at my six week post-op appt, and found out the size of my uterus and the fibroids, I understood that the surgery was definitely warranted. I am only 44, and menopause is nowhere near yet. I am still struggling with some of the fatigue issues, and some hormonal stuff, but slowly, slowly, it's getting better.
