I finally have a surgery date.

The GYN resident who is working with my oncologist this month called this afternoon. We had discussed three dates when we talked on Monday. Those dates were the dates that my oncologist was available. They had to be coordinated with one of the advanced laparoscopists since I'm having a total laparoscopic hysterectomy. I ended up with the third date - Friday, August 4. I had been hoping for a somewhat earlier date but there is a part ofme that wonders how I'll get ready by August 4.

I don't have my pre-op until August 3. That would worry me but I've already had the pre-op for this procedure once. I think I know what to expect. I have to have the surgery at another hospital in our system. I'm a little disappointed about that but it should be OK. The residents work in both hospitals. He thought things would be about the same.

After I scheduled the surgery, my significant other told me his mother had called to see if he's going to their family reunion. They have it every other year and he goes religiously. He told her he couldn't because it was too close to my surgery. I had asked him about dates I should schedule around and he had told me to schedule for the date that was best for me. I had forgotten about the reunion date. When I told him I would have tried to schedule around the reunion, he told he thought I should get it done as soon as I could. I thought that was very sweet.

This has been a long road but hopefully I'm getting near the end. I'm excited about that.

I finally have a surgery date.

You've reached another milestone in your journey. Somehow when you get an actual surgery date, it makes things more "real". Also, you're able to start doing the serious planning and preparations.

And I agree, your SO is very sweet and has his in the right place to put you ahead of his family reunion. He is definitely a "keeper".
