See how it goes, maybe you can go home the next day. I had TAH with LSO. Case started around 3:30 pm Dec 3 was home the next day by 7 pm Dec 4. Here's how I did it : I had some nausea post op for which I asked for Zofran, after a couple doses didn't need it anymore. Pain was controlled with IV Dilaudid, which I asked for every time it was due. Stay on top of pain control. It's very important. I was up in a chair less than 12 hours after surgery, then walking in the halls with the catheter in. I resumed a regular diet by breakfast. I asked them to pull the Foley catheter and change my pain medication to Percocet and call my doctor to go home all by 11am on Dec 4. By 1 pm all that was done and I just had to wait for the doc. So, If I had not had to wait for them I would have been home much sooner. Honestly, there was nothing they could do for me there that my hubby and I couldn't do at home. Hospitals are a pool of infection. I work in one and it is a good one....nationally ranked. But people are sick and germs are easily passed....If I don't have to be there I won't be and I sure wouldn't take my child into one right now. There's a saying if you want to get sick go to a hospital, lol. It's true. I've had a easy recovery and wish you one too!

Re: visitors while in the hospital

If your son visited you, what would he really be able to do there?? He won't be able to sit with you and barely able to hug you even. I think he should stay home...believe me, it will be harder on you than him.

Would you have someone who could keep him at your house where things are familiar?

What about you making a video for him, maybe reading a bedtime story?
