IBS and bladder spasms???

Hi "sisters" I am 9 yrs. post now. Wow, do not know where that went! Had a lap. hyster and when they took the uterus they said it was "stuck" to my bladder which resulted in bladder spasms for months and months after. I would say at about 18 mo. and after Detrol, tests, and more tests for Interstitial Cystitis etc...all coming back normal they eventually started to lessen. After a knee surgery they began again and my PT said that the stress of the surgery and rehab could trigger them. The bladder being a muscle is succeptable to spasms as an eye twitch etc...I mention this because I have had spasms for a week now, and have begun counceling with my husband, a dear friend just passed away, and I have also notced that when I'm stressed I get diarreha and the spasms are worse. Have any of you noticed a connection between your bowels and bladder spasms? Stress??? I'm hoping this passes soon, heading off on vacation Sunday

Re: IBS and bladder spasms???

Paula--

I hope you found some relief before your vacation. Since you are already on detrol and are doing other measures, have you tried using such things as warm, moist heat? I have tried that when other things seem to fail. I use what I call a 'warmie' that I nuke in the microwave for 2 minutes. [These things are filled with various materials but I like the ones best that have natural things like wheat kernals or rice.]

Please check with your doctor when the things you are doing just don't seem to help. There are several medications that can be used and when the one you are taking just doesn't seem to 'cut' it, you may be able to try others.

Re: IBS and bladder spasms???

I think anything is made worse by stress, but yes...I have heard that IBS and other bowel issues tend to worsen with stress. I hope the doctor can get something to help you with this!

Re: IBS and bladder spasms???

Thank-you "sisters" for your responses. It's so easy to feel so alone in these issues... I am not on Detrol now, only the first year post hysterectomy and hated the side effects so went off. I found the Bladder Q, a natural remedy that I researched and it really helped ease the muscle spasms and anxiety from them. Funny how once on vacation and relaxing the spasms ceased. I think this Fall when the kiddos are back in school I may start yoga. I am now convinced on the connection and don't want them a part of my life anymore!!!!

Hugs to you all,
Paula

Re: IBS and bladder spasms???

Paula, So glad that I found this thread that you started. I'm 3 months post-op and have also been experiencing those strange bladder spasms. My uterus was stuck to my bladder and my bowels, and I had endometriosis on my ureters as well. I wasn't sure if these spasms could be due to bruising or trauma, since everything is rearranged in there. I don't think that it is an infection....because I have no other symptoms. Occassionally my urine burns, but I deal with this by drinking tons of water and cranberry juice, and I eat a lot of alkalizing vegetables. Not sure if IC could be the cause. I'm trying to deal with the spasms naturally, because I don't like the side effects of medications. What are the ingredients in Bladder Q? Is it a herbal remedy? I wouldn't mind trying it out myself, if it helps.
