Question for those six months or beyond their surgery

So you ladies who are five and six month after your surgery, How long did you have to wait to pick up twenty pounds? I have a 20 pound grandson who I used to babysit seven days a week and I'd like to go back to babysitting him maybe 3 days a week, but it would require me to pick him up cause he is only 6 months old. Will I have to wait six months? or even longer?

I was hoping 2 months would do it. Please let me know when you began to pick up 20 pounds or more without pain or excessive strain on your energy. Kitty

Question for those six months or beyond their surgery

I just started last month lifting things close to 20 lbs. I am 1 year out in 16 more days. I was allowed to lift 20 lbs at my 6 mth ck up but I was too afraid to try. I know I can do it because I thought I had 5 lbs dumbbells at the gym and couldn't figure out why my arms were jelly and realized I had the 10 lbs dumbbells and had no problems.

Question for those six months or beyond their surgery

Kitty -
I am 4+ months and I already pick up 20-25 lbs at times, as I do daycare.
I had a TVH so that might make a difference; but my dr said to increase as I felt up to it. I don't usually go over that amount by much or for long, though at this time.

I did not have our youngest granddaughter [2 1/2 yrs old] spend the weekend until Labor Day weekend, because I didn't feel I could keep up with her ("all" day for several days) or pick her up if I needed to.

I'd ask your Dr what their time estimate is for 20 lbs given your situation.

Question for those six months or beyond their surgery

I am in the wine biz and a case of wine weighs 45 pounds. I did not lift one until I was about 5 months post-op. They told me a couple of months, but I held out for a longer time to make sure that I was healing.

that makes good sense. I'll be very careful, especially at 2 months. Thanks all. Kitty

Question for those six months or beyond their surgery

Hi Kitty,

It's important to check with your doctor on this one. When you can lift is dependent on what work was done internally, and how you're healing. Little ones can be so tempting. Just be sure to follow your doctor's recommendations so you don't cause any irreversible damage. Be good to yourself and happy healing!

Question for those six months or beyond their surgery

Hi Kitty,
I just want to give you a little of my imput. I work for a company that requires lifting everyday. I went back to work after 8 weeks and that was with no restrictions from my doctor. You will have to ask yours when you go for a check up? Your body will let you know if it is to much to soon. Remeber you only have 1 chance to heal correctly. Good luck with your recovery!

Question for those six months or beyond their surgery

I'll do that. I told my daughter to remind me to write it down before my appt, so she will be after me as well. She wants me to babysit Nov 10th if I am allowed to lift. But not before. she was very adamant about that. Kitty

Question for those six months or beyond their surgery

I am 3 months post op. At my 8 week check up when the dr gave the ok on everything, I asked him if I had any restrictions. I am on a fall bowling league and wanted to go back. He said do anything I felt I could do. I asked him if I could do any damage at this point or cause any adhesions. He said I could not cause any adhesions but that it would be several months before I would be fully healed. So off to bowling I've been and doing most everything I want and not giving thought to lifting anything. I move whatever I am strong enough to do. (mostly cases of water from the grocery store - how ever much those weigh )
