Finally have surgery date and hoping it is a breeze:)

Hi sisters,

Thought I would post an update to my previous message with
details on my surgery.

It is scheduled May 6th at 11:00am, but I need to be there at
9:00am. NPO after midnight as the norm, but I will probably take
my stomach med late that night.
The surgery is a laparascopic hysterectomy. My gyn already told me that he is 90%+ sure that it can totally be done that way, because he has done about 200 of them and he said that only one case had to be opened up.

I hope some of you can tell me if you have had this surgery and
what to expect, how long recovery is,(I was told two weeks), and
if I will be okay to drive within a fews days or so after. In my mind, I feel I will be able to handle it all really well, but I'm not saying there will be some fear and pain to deal with.

Thanks to all in advance who take the time to reply.

Judy

Hi Judy

I did not have the same type of surgery you will have. But hopefully others will be along who can comment.
Please follow your doctor's instructions on when you can drive, return to work and other normal activities.
We can share our experiences with you here at Hystersisters but only your doctor can tell your what is right for you.
Good luck to you and keep us posted.

Hi Judy,

I hope it will be a breeze for you, as you suggest! I had a TAH/BSO so I can't comment from personal experience. However, I had a laparoscopic myomectomy to remove fibroids and that recovery was fairly short and more of a "breeze" in comparison to my hyst. With the lap surgery, I missed one week of work and didn't drive for about 5 days.

I've read posts here from other ladies who had the same type of surgery you are having and many of them only stayed in the hospital one night and seemed to recover more quickly. Please check with your doctor to be sure about driving and returning to work, because each gyn is a little different and this may also depend on the nature of your problems and whether or not other procedures are planned during your surgery.

Best of luck, Judy!

Beth
