Miserable night sweats

For the past week or so I have developed the worst case of night sweats to the point it wakes me up. I wake up soaked like I just went for a swim. It's dead winter and I have taken to wearing my summer pajamas. It's driving me nuts. I still have an ovary, so I don't understand it.

Check out the thread -->hot cold hot cold?
Several of us are having the same thing. Last night was my worst night yet. I too woke up soaked then I was freezing. I still have both ovaries. Think it is part of the healing precess.
Hang in there sister!

Re: Miserable night sweats

I had the same problem...kept both ovaries and for about 4 nights I woke up drenched and freezing! It was about days 12-16 post. My doctor said your ovary(s), just need time to adjust. I have not had any problems since day 16 and today I am at day 24...so hoping that's over!

They say you should sleep with a fan on low, but when I had the problem we had a below normal temps and a freeze at the same time! So that didn't work for me.

Re: Miserable night sweats

Ladies,

I have the same problem, unless I take a menopause suppliment. When I take it I do not sweat and sleep through the night. When I forget, they come back. Helps with hot flashes too, but for me it was the night sweats that were causing the biggest issue.

Good luck

Re: Miserable night sweats

I was suffering with them along with insomnia the first weeks after surgery. I had told my doctor about it and he put me on a low dosage of the minivelle dot patch and I haven't had anymore problems with either one of them since. Good luck.

Re: Miserable night sweats

Four years ago to shrink cysts my doctor put me on the vivelle along with a monthly shot to put me into temporary menopause. I've never been more miserable. I don't know if it was the shot or the patch. And no, surgery and the shot didnt work.
The night sweats are not related to my electric blanket since I did not use it last night and woke up drenched again.

Re: Miserable night sweats

You are experiencing night sweats because your ovary might not be working properly. Most of the time, the blood supply to ovaries gets disrupted during a hysterectomy. This diagram explains how the blood supply to the uterus and ovaries can differ for various women. According to the info in the diagram, 56% of women have their ovaries get their blood supply from both the uterine and ovarian arteries. 40% of women have the blood supply come from the ovarian artery only and 4% get the blood supply to their ovary from the uterine artery only. During surgery, the uterine artery is cut so you can see how the blood supply gets disrupted. For the 4% that have only the uterine artery providing the blood supply, it would logically seem that if that blood supply gets cut off, then the ovary would stop functioning. And for the other 56%, it would take time for the ovary to get used to have only part of its blood supply. I would assume that the 40% would be the ones feeling the least of the effects. I am not a doctor but I think that my assumptions make sense when one views the diagram.

I use Sage, the herb, for hot flashes and night sweats. You can either drink it in tea or you can buy caplets of compressed sage. I use the caplets. They don't get rid of all hot flashes or night sweats entirely but they do decrease the number of them significantly. I found studies out of Europe that proved it worked so that is why I tried it. I have passed this on to a few friends, one of which has suffered from severe flashes and sweats for the last ten years and she was amazed at the difference. By the way, it took 3 weeks for it to start working for me and my friends. I felt it was a safer solution than some other over the counter options.

I hope this helps.

I know they can be dreadful. You have my sympathy.

I used to sleep with a soft towel between my legs, because it helped when my hot, sweaty legs were not touching each other. I also had a second towel over my pillow. It helped keep my pillow dry, and I could mop my face with it during the night.

I tried lots of natural remedies, because I am too old for HRT.
Sage pills and Soya milk are the ones I am taking at the moment. I think they might help a bit - when I remember to take them.
