Don't do what I did at 4 mos

This spring break I rode a rollercoaster with my son because he was afraid to ride alone. Not the smooth fast kind, it was the jerky, quick turn and dip, rattle -fast kind. I got off and started crying, knowing it wasn't a good thing I'd done. I didn't realize how the lap bar would hurt (took it for granted where it locked in). I was so scared I'd torn something internally. I limped around after that and felt a little swollen, but nothing more came of it. I just need to keep in mind this takes up to a year to really heal. I thought I felt normal enough to do this kind of thing, but I was wrong.

Ah (((Yippee))) I'm sorry you got hurt. Yes, you are sooo right. I go to all the parks here in Florida. I am 10 months out and rode a "tame" roller coaster. Again, just as you said, it was the lap bar that hurt me. When I got off I felt a terrible cramping in my stomach area. Something was very wrong. I was so sure I was goin to have to go to their First Aid. And Sisters, I do the rides all the time. So none of the ride was new to me. I just wasn't ready with the new body. Anyway, we are talking some hard cramps like my period or bad bowels. I went straightdown to sit. And told DH to go ride something and then come back. 15 min later I was feeling better, but boy,did I learn my lesson.
Sisters, please take it easy on these rides. That lap bar is what gets you. And no, I wasn't thrown into it. I think that's why our dr's don't want us in cars for a while. If we were thrown against the seatbelt we could be in a world of trouble. Right?
All my best to everyone...

Wow,

I guess when they talk about us being early in our recovery, I now see what they mean. Thank you for the warning. I hope you feel better.

Poor thing. We are suppose to go to Disney this summer and my doc already told me no rollercoasters or jerky rides of any kind for 1 year.
Hope you are feeling better

Thanks for the warning. My brother is coming into town from England with the family and we are all going to Disney. If I didn't read your post I would have definitely done something stupid. Thanks!

I can't even tell you how much that story helped me. I was planning on going to King's Island next month. I LOVE roller coasters and had no idea this could cause injury. I am 3 months post op and still having a little pain, so this is a big help to know!!! THANKS!

Glad I read this! Thanks for the heads up - I'm feeling pretty good right now, finally heading in the right direction, I think, and I never would've thought twice about the lap bar!

Thats why we postponed this years Disney World trip until November or December. Figured I'd feel a lot better at that point and it wouldn't be a complete waste of money for me to go. If we went end of May like we planned it would've been a complete waste of money for me to go. I would'nt be able to enjoy anything with the kids...except the shopping of course. LOL! And I figure if I get tired or swollen I can just go get one of those motorized cart thingys and cruise around in style.
