unsteady?

i am really unsteady on my feet still.. i feel a little woozy....

i don't know if it is just the pain meds..or if it is just weakness from the surgery

i think my blood count was just fine.......

so i know it hasn't been quite a week...but like..i can't step over a dog (we have three lying all around here)... sometimes i start to get dizzy.... i kind of scuffle instead of picking up my feet.....

is this normal?

If you're still on meds it sounds pretty normal. You're only 5 days post, give it a week and a half to 2 to start feeling much better. If you're overly concerned though you can always give your doc a call !! Rest, rest, and more rest will get you back to feeling normal in no time!!

For me, that feeling comes and goes. I am almost pain-med free (except for Motrin), so it's no longer the drugs. I find that if I'm tired, or if I have been sitting too long, I find it tough to be steady in my first few steps off the couch.

Take it slow and be safe!

I had to address dizziness at one of my post-ops too. It can result from lower estrogen, low blood pressure, or low iron. Your doctor should be able to give you some answers. Hope your recovery otherwise is going well. Take care!

i do have low blood pressure ordinarily....

it got to 88/53 in the hospital and was kind of freaking one of the nurses out.....

but mine can be in the upper 80's over 60 something when i have been walking around at Publix..much less when i am asleep.....

i think my iron count is fine ...otherwise she would have put me on iron or something......

i guess i will try to wean myself off of some of these pain pills.... starting tomorrow.....

instead of every 4-6 hours i'll try to wait 8 hours... or i will take a lesser drug than percocet. like just try regular old tylenol......

i see my doctor on the 23rd....

i am allowed to drive to that appointment..but i might have to drive sooner.... because tomorrow morning my oldest son goes back to Gainesville... and we will have no ride to get groceries, etc....

i do have one friend i can ask.......and i think i might do that...

thanks everybody... it is so good coming here ...i know i can always count on you guys....

It takes a week or two for the general anesthesia to work its way out of your system as well, so dizziness and shuffling are totally normal. I'm glad you'll be calling a friend to help get you to the store. You shouldn't be carrying groceries or even pushing a cart just yet, anyway. Also, if your grocery store has a delivery service, you might want to take advantage of it just this one.

Take it easy!

thanks Chris....

i would not be carrying the groceries or pushing the cart though just driving there and back.... about 1 mile each way.....

and that wouldn't be for a few more days.... like wednesday.......
but i think i will still call a friend instead of driving even that short distance
especially if i am still on any pain meds.....

hugs,

unsteady?

I found that the pain meds were making me dizzy by times and found that after taking them I would have to lay down for a 1/2 hour to an hour before the dizziness died down some. I too take percocet and i don't find that I am as dizzy as what i was when taking dilautid. Just a thought....
