Post op teachers.....or similar field.....

I admire you for driving a bus! I'd rather have them all day as opposed to driving them around. I don't blame you for taking longer. You don't realize what a strain driving is until you go back to it. I really don't feel like I have brain yet and that would be mentally draining.

I am back at work....I had a long time to recover though.....it is so busy....FCAT Writing is coming up (as well as all 4th grade Florida teachers know).....

After keeping up with workshops, school, and family....friends.....I may have 30 minutes in the day for me. I do need to find time!!!! I am feeling fine...Tomorrow I go for my annual check-up....first one since surgery......hope all is well.....

I teach K. Just two weeks out now, but am wondering when I'll get the go ahead to return. Miss my little ones, but know they'll tire me out!

Hi All - I'm an elementary counselor in a K-5 school. I have my 6 week appt. on the 31st. I'm hoping for the green light and starting back on Feb. 1st (then having the weekend to recover). After reading all of the postings, I don't know whether to feel guilty for taking the 6 weeks or if I'm going back too early. I know each person heals at their own rate, but I'm wondering if I'm up for the back to school challenge. I've worried and worried about all of the individual kids I see - how they "survived" the holidays, etc. I've kept in touch with some of their teachers, but it's not as good as being there. I WISH I could have had a sub, but that just doesn't happen for counselors. This means my principal has to either deal with the situations that come up or call one of the other elementary counselors to come over and help. Guess in a way this could be job security no one else at my campus wants to deal with the tough and not so tough issues that come up. I feel so guilty for not being there for my kids - just like everyone else. Then there's the rest of the campus kiddos that I'm not doing lessons with - more internal stress. I wish there was a way that I could do 1/2 days, but as someone wrote, there's no way I could be out by 12:00, once you're there, they suck you in. I guess it comes down to what the doctor says on Thursday - just hoping she doesn't leave the decision to me - ugh!

So for this feild we all know SNOW Days. well it snowed last night and I actuallu got a cal at5am to tell me school was closed I told mr person that caled me very nicely that I wasnt driving til at laeast March 3rd so if they cancel school tomorrow it is ok she does not need to call be

You folks are lucky to get snow days - here we keep the schools open in extreme weather and only after the fact will they close them.

Today it was -45 C with wind chill, 10-15 cm of snow, 35 mph winds - and we went to work!! Now I'm trying (very gingerly) to help DH dig out our driveway and back patio (for the pooch of course). I can manage the scoop and he gets the snowblower. I guess that's why they call us Crazy Canucks.

Try not to feel guilty about being away. Look at it as a learning experience for the kids you see. Maybe they grew in some way by having to work out problems without you. I'm sure you will be much more appreciated when you go back. I'm impressed you get to spend time with kids. It seems like our counselor's big responsibility is TAKS. Good luck and take it easy.

I know I'm really lucky to have an Asst Principal that is the TAKS Queen. Maybe my title as TAKS Princess was a foreshadowing of what was to come . . . spooky! I am the co-coordinator of TAKS (yuk), so I won't be seeing as manygroups in the spring - just the poor freaked out kiddos that get my Nervous Nellie testing lesson. Maybe I should take "Nellie" into consideration and not be so nervous about going back. Thanks for the positive thoughts - maybe the kids have had to step up while I've been gone.

Like some of the other women said you just won't know. I am 3 weeks out and some days are so hard and I just can't get out of bed. My doctor told me to be ready for 6-10 weeks recovery with the possibility of 12 or 14. I can say that taking it easy is an understatement and I have done that a couple times without really doing too much. You have to do what is right for you and we are all so different. I was suppose to start school again on the 14 Jan but ended up being put in an online student session because I just never know what the day will bring and what I can do. I still can not sleep on either one of my sides and (I am sick of sleeping on my back Even with no one here at the house during the day I sometimes do not have the strength or the pain is so uncomfortable not bad pain more of an annoying pain and now a head cold with the sneezing and the coughing doesn't help at all!! You take it easy and if you need more time just ask the doctor you can adjust to the situation look at what you have done so far. Good luck!

Teachers and All,

I am a SLP and was hoping to go back 1/2 days after my 4 week check. I am so glad I found this thread. I work with students who have cognitive disabilities and they are great. One of my co-workers is filling in, and gives me updates. She is even doing some of my evaluations. I travel to 3 buildings but work with the best team in the world so they would most likely let me do a building a day.

I would love to hear some more from those who went back. I would be going back Feb 11th, with conferences on the 14th from 1 to 9 pm.
If if wait 6 weeks then it would be Monday Feb 25th. I was thinking 1/2 days beginning the 11th and work my way back into my schedule.
