Re: Surgery tomorrow FEAR OF DIEING!
{{Hugs}} to all facing surgery. I, too, was terrified but it all turned out ok. I brought a MP3 player with some meditation music and listened to it all morning till they were ready to take me to the operating room. DH took the MP3 player and returned it to me when I was in my room. That helped me a lot.

Hey. Please relax. Everyone taking care of you are so professional. Express all of your concerns to them and they will help you. You will be treated like a queen and you will have help through every step of your recovery. It is really ok.

Re: Surgery tomorrow FEAR OF DIEING!
I think we all have that fear on one form or another. Once we show up for the surgery, we are totally at the mercy of things beyond our control and that scares the you know what out of the patients.
Remember that this surgery is performed thousands of times across the United States, and this is not the first time for your surgeon. They go to school for several extra years to learn how to perform the surgery and how to deal with whatever complications may come up. They are backed by an excellent hospital staff with years and years of experience.
You are strong and healthy as a horse other than what needs to be removed. There is no reason why you won't come out of this okay.
You will be fine. You have to believe it. Be in the best health you can be and put yourself in competent hands. Say a prayer or light a candle for a little extra support and go into it with a positive attitude.

Re: Surgery tomorrow FEAR OF DIEING!
Hi - I see that you wrote your comments this morning and it is now Sunday evening. I hope that you are feeling better by now. I read the other posts with advice to you, so you have already heard what I am going to say. I want to reinforce what you have already read! I am now almost 6 weeks post-op TAHBSO for uterine cancer. I felt the same way you are feeling now - I didn't have small children, but I have grandchildren that I adore and wonderful grown children and a husband and a beautiful dog - I didn't want to leave any of them! I even wrote a letter to each one of them (except the dog, of course), and left it sealed on the kitchen table when I left for the hospital that morning. In addition to telling each one how much I loved them and how I regretted not being able to stay longer with them, I had instructions for my funeral. On the outside of the envelope, I left instructions that the letter was not to be opened unless I did not survive! My husband thought it was ridiculous, but I did what I felt I needed to do. The morning of my surgery, I woke up feeling uncharacteristically calm - even my husband was surprised because I had NOT been calm previously. When we got to the hospital, everything moved SO quickly that I didn't even have time to think about what was happening. Everyone was very nice and reassuring. The anesthesioglogist came in to tell me that he would be the one to be putting me to sleep. I told him I was more interested in the "waking up" part. He told me that he had read both books and that he was pretty good at both of them! We had a good laugh and when he came back a few minutes later, he told me he was just going to "push" some medicine and I would be out in about 10 seconds. I barely remember being rolled out of my room. The next thing I knew I was waking up in the recovery room! So........take deep breaths and try to relax. Everyone will guide you every step of the way - it's okay to be scared - it's okay to say it - they have seen it all before - they will do their help you through it. Wait til you wake up and see those youngin's - you'll be SO happy and so proud that you did this. It IS a big deal! I am now almost 6 weeks post op and my recovery has been very good, There has been discomfort along the way, but nothing unmanageable! You'll get through it - You CAN do it!! Hugs and prayers to you!!
