Rude and Insensitive People

I need to VENT! I have known for some time that I was having an LSH in October. I have shared this with my closest co-workers (I am a teacher and I have told most of my department members). Another co-worker just found out she needs a TAH. Suddenly everyone is jumping through hoops to plan meals for her, do her lesson plans, coordinating grading her papers, and collecting money for food and flowers, because this lady practically goes about begging for handouts (always one crisis after another).

I was talking with coworkers at lunch and said that I hoped no one needs a sub for a few weeks since two of us will be out for awhile. One of my rude co-workers said..."Well, we are already doing for _________, you can take care of yourself". I felt as though my problems didn't matter.

I was shocked. Just because I haven't gone around crying about my situation doesn't mean that I don't need support or caring! Yes, I am able to take care for myself and I do have a loving and caring family to help me. I don't really need the food, or flowers, but an offer to help with sub plans or grading would have been nice. How about a "So sorry you are going through this...if there is anything we can do just call?" Nope...I got the suck it up and deal with it line.

UGH

So sorry you have to deal with this.

It's hard working with a co-worker that is a drama-llama. Are there some less insensitive and rude co-workers that you could confide in and share your concerns about grading papers, etc? How about other places to look for support like church, other groups, family, etc?

Good luck! and this place is filled with wonderful and supportive women!

Drama - Llama...I like that! I guess I was looking for sympathy and was taken by surprise at the insensitivity. Afterall, just because I don't go around having my own pity party at work, it doesn't me that I am not having some emotions and feel like I could use some help.

I feel for you, finding a sub is enough of a problem without having to worry your sub will have no support from your fellow faculity members. I would ask my true friends at work to help the sub out and let the Drama-Llama have the "glory". As for me, it is glory I could have done without.

Hope all works out for you and you have our support, even if we can't help with grading and lesson plans!

I work in a very supportive environment. So much so that we consider it a "family." I could easily take that for granted. I would be livid if I were in your shoes. It's tough though because you don't want to be like her and be a Drama-Llama. She probably doesn't have the family you have though. Be thankful for the things you do have so you don't get so mad. It doesn't do you any good. At least you have Hystersisters now. I've been a member for all of one day and I'm very thankful for all the responses I've gotten. It's been very helpful. Keep your chin up!!

First of all, puppy-ma, I think the phrase drama-llama is so cool. This should go into the lexicon! kgc, vent as needed. This is such a tough situation and to add the insensitivity is just so much more insult to injury. (Literally.)

People can be wonderful and then you come across jerks and you just cannot believe it.

Do you have other people at work who could help out?

I hope you have two things, one, help from better human beings, and two, a way to take good care of yourself so that your blood pressure stays normal even after being around such dopes.

Also, it's great to be able to come here. I was really feeling scared and worried and also worried I was being a drama-llama, actually, then I found HysterSisters one week before the surgery and began to breathe.
